Below is the latest forecast from the US stat site 538. Looking like the Trump army is going to surge back to power in the house and senate. The loss of the house seems to be a foregone conclusion, but I don't think either the democrats or republicans will accept a loss in the senate - so could get very interesting (unless one party ends up gaining 2-3 seats and its a clear defeat) to see which races end up going to court and when the ballet stuffing/electronic machine hacking/manual count debate gets reignited. I think if the dems lose the senate Biden and Kamala are 100% gone from the 2024 ticket (Hilary v Trump 2.0? :roflmao:)

There has been a lot of talk the past few years of the polls undercounting right leaning votes - Bolsonaro obviously did far better than expected in Brazil recently. Will the trend continue in the US?

The MAGA cult, urgh...

I wonder how many are aware that the Trump Trade War/s, among other stresses, was the cause for:
  • Loss of $4B USD in farmer exports
  • Thus causing a price collapse for American farm produce
  • Thus removing funding for many rural communities e.g., schools
  • Thus forcing price hikes passed onto the American people
  • Thus the American taxpayer was required to fund bail out/assistance packages for those farmers
  • Majority of farmers are republican
Adding religion, evangelists in particular, to their arsenal has allowed the MAGA cult infilteration and brain washing to continue unabated.

Just like the Russian patriarch Kirill's religious endorsement Putin's madness:

“We are talking about something different and much more important than politics,” he said. “We are talking about human salvation.”
Last sentence from the article.
“Right-wing politicians in America that are manipulating these same issues for their advantage are singing from the same choir as Vladimir Putin and Kirill,” he said.

Democrats win control of the Senate. They have 50 seats with one more to come in a run off election.
Congress is still not decided. Probably a small Republican majority

Interesting so far that no one has taken the "we wuz robbed" line.

Could be they realise just how damaging that would be to US democracy ?

The latest outcome in Nevada could provoke that response. The losing candidate was one of the people who tried to overturn the 2020 results. Naturally Trump decided she should be supported.

But yes. At the moment I havn't heard any noises about 'we wuz robbed"

The Democrats are still making headway in the Congress voting. They currently have 204 seats vs 2011. Still a way to go.

One of the crucial tipping points of the 2022 Midterm elections was the success of John Fetterman over the Trump picked TV celebrity Dr Mehmet Oz.

This video report highlights the atmosphere before the election and the fire that ultimately resulted in John Fetterman winning the popular vote. His campaign was driven by the real battlers of the State.

Another Trump pricked candidate who strongly supported "the big lie" and was prepared to turn her own State in that direction has been defeated.

The Democratic candidate for governor in Arizona, Katie Hobbs, has defeated her far-right, Trump-endorsed opponent, staving off a major threat to voting rights in the state

Hobbs, who is Arizona’s outgoing secretary of state, defeated Kari Lake, a former TV anchor who denies the 2020 election results and has refused to say if she would accept defeat.. The Associated Press projected Hobbs as the winner on Monday evening with more than 95% of votes reported.

Trump for 2024 would be ‘bad mistake’, Republican says as blame game deepens

Hobbs celebrated her win on Twitter with the message: “Democracy is worth the wait.”

Hobbs rose to prominence as a staunch defender of the legitimacy of the last election and warned that Lake would be an agent of chaos. Lake’s loss adds further evidence that Trump is weighing down his allies in a crucial battleground state as the former president gears up for an announcement of a 2024 presidential run.

The two candidates had been virtually tied in polls, and Hobbs’s refusal to debate Lake and her lukewarm performance in televised appearances had worried supporters in the weeks ahead of the election.

Hobbs gained support and national recognition as Arizona’s top election official, defending the state’s results against a frenzy of disinformation and repeated efforts by Republicans to challenge and undermine Joe Biden’s victory in 2020, even as she became the target of death threats.

Voting rights advocates are breathing a sigh of relief, as Hobbs staves off further damage to Arizona’s election systems. Republican lawmakers in the state introduced at least 81 bills seeking to restrict voting access in 2021 and 2022.

Had she won, Lake had vowed to further dismantle voting norms in the state, arguing winners should be declared on election night – a rare occurrence in Arizona, where mail-in votes can take days to count – while also forgoing ballot counting machines in favor of slower and less accurate hand counts.

And in recent months, rightwing activists had aggressively operated in the state. Hobbs referred several complaints of voter intimidation to law enforcement and the US justice department. And members of the conspiracy theorist group Clean Elections USA had been photographing and intimidating election workers and voters outside the Maricopa county election headquarters in Phoenix.

I don't think this race was influenced by Trump despite the media hype. Remember Trump was all for the first guy who had to drop out. Oz was his second choice.

This was very much two well-known personalities going against each other - Hollywood celebrity vs. local celebrity. If I told you the muslim child of immigrants lost out to a white man...You would have thought that was a description of republican beating a democrat and if I told you the local midwest man beats hollywood tv star...You would have thought that was a description of republican beating a democrat. Whatever way you look at it Fetterman had years and years of local community and political standing whereas Dr. Oz had none.

And that probably explains very easily why Dr. Oz lost. From day one he just had a little too much to overcome - even before you start to talk about politics and policy. You're likely going to have right leaning voters not keen on voting for a Muslim no matter how westernized he is - but happy to vote for a big fat white man. You've got the original 'Trump base' that were sick of politicians and elites and had no interest in voting for Oprah's guest doctor. And finally, you've got a situation where a lot of locals saw Oz as a parachute candidate (which we know usually ends badly).

What will be interesting now is to see if Fetterman (firstly is not a vegetable) causes problems for the Democrats. He might be a Harvard grad but he's not known for playing the political games and I'm not sure the usual employers of Senators (weapons/pharma/insurance industry) will be able to control him.

It's always interesting to see which people are playing dirty in US elections. I remember it was only only afew months back that one of the loudest Right wing political voices talking about election fraud..... was himself found guilty of election fraud.

It continues. A couple of right wing scum bags have been convicted of targeting black voters with robo calls trying to scare them off voting with a pack of lies.

One of the truly delightful outcomes of this case is the judge ordered the pair to spend 500 hours community service registering voters in low income Wasington suburbs. How fitting. They also face a $5m fine for

Two men convicted of fraud for targeting Black voters with phony robocalls before the 2020 election must spend 500 hours registering voters in low-income neighborhoods of Washington DC, an Ohio judge ruled.
The calls told people they could be arrested or forced to receive vaccinations based on information they submitted in votes by mail.

Jacob Wohl, 24, of Irvine, California, and Jack Burkman, 56, of Arlington, Virginia – rightwing operatives with a history of targeting Democrats and other public figures – pleaded guilty last month, each to a single felony count of telecommunications fraud.
The judge in Cuyahoga county common pleas court, John Sutula, also fined each man $2,500 and placed them on two years’ probation. They were ordered to spend six months in home confinement, beginning at 8pm each day.

“I think it’s a despicable thing that you guys have done,” Sutula said, comparing their actions to violence used to suppress Black voters in the south in the 1960s.

Wohl and Burkman were indicted in October 2020, accused of arranging for a voice broadcast service to make about 85,000 robocalls to predominantly Black neighborhoods in Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Illinois in the run-up to the 2020 general election.

Prosecutors said the pair were responsible for 3,500 calls to residents of Cleveland and East Cleveland.

According to James Gutierrez, an assistant Cuyahoga county prosecutor, the robocalls warned voters that police, credit card companies and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would use personal information obtained from mail-in ballots to find individuals with arrest warrants and credit card debt, Cleveland.com reported.

Some calls told voters personal information would be used to carry out forced vaccinations.

According to a script published by the New York attorney general, Letitia James, one call said: “Hi, this is Tamika Taylor from Project 1599, the civil rights organization founded by Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl. Mail-in voting sounds great, but did you know that if you vote by mail, your personal information will be part of a public database that will be used by police departments to track down old warrants and be used by credit card companies to collect outstanding debts?

“The CDC is even pushing to use records for mail-in voting to track people for mandatory vaccines. Don’t be finessed into giving your private information to the man, stay safe and beware of vote by mail.”

Gutierrez said: “All of that is false … there is not one kernel of truth into what they said in that recording.”

Thats a bit dangerous, they could be registering dead Republican voters.:cautious:

Donald goes further off the deep end, calls for termination of the US Constitution.

Another load of lying, treasonous rubbish. We can now look forward a flurry of Trump diehards echoing this poisonous xhit. And naturally the election conspirators have another hare to chase. After all if Trump declares it, it must be true.:cautious:

Critical question IMV is if the Republicans or even the mainstream Conservative media call this out. If they won't do so one can only surmise they
1) Quietly support the view or
2) Are unwilling to openly criticize Donald Trump.

It's called democracy.

He can present his views and if enough people vote for him and his people then he can do what he likes.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?
