Africa the cradle or the grave of civilization?

LOL :) No oil.

<no sarcasm>

No oil , well so far , but they do have uranium and ...... Muganybody want to process this . Not forgetting that Muganybody has snuggled real close up to North Korea and Iran . Some research might show that a company called Omegacorp has the exploration duties here and a couple of others .

If I were to be cynical ....... I'd find it amazing as now that France has shown an interest in these ventures , the US has come out of the woods/closet to start making grumbling sounds . UN forces or UA forces annexing this country would make that an easy prospect for the US to get their grubby little hands on ........

It took centuries to develop the level of civilisation western societies enjoy today. We've tried to teach/impose that level of civilisation on what are basically tribal societies with all their enmities & hatreds still ready to boil over at any time.

In England 500 years ago Lancaster & York fought the Wars of the Roses. Those battles only continue today with bats & ball on the cricket field. In many parts of Africa they still kill each other - and they have modern weapons to do it with.

The Romans brought their, for the time, highly developed civilisation to Britain. Look what happened when they left, and they were there for about 500 years!. Can we expect it to be any different in Africa?

What an interesting point. It really wasn't that long ago that whitefella carried on like the Africans do today. Until recently, I had no idea to what extent, but there are lashings of English History programs over here that detail the whole sorry deal.

My God!!!

Apart from the frivolous and futile glossy magazine/celebrity culture, I am very thankful to be living in this part of the world at this time. At least our Royalty is into organic farming instead of cutting people's heads off.

<anecdote> My missus was actually born and partly raised in Kenya and she and her family have nothing but fondness for the local people there. They left after of the Mao Mao emergency... a disgraceful affair with atrocities committed on both sides. But basically, whitefella screwed up the distribution of land and ergo, wealth... and here was the result.

I just wonder how things would be if we hadn't created the imbalances in their culture.

If it was politically stable, they would go back in the blink of an eye.

Golly, Yank turned Aussie, turned Pom. eeek!

Fully adopted now Wayne?

:D
Well, I must remind you that Lizzie is still Queen of Australia.

But no matter how much I say; I say, tally-ho old bean, jolly good show, what? Ta-ta, pip-pip, and all that rot; because of my accent, I'm still a j.a.f.a.**

But, it's currency over here in the wild, wild west of the Cotwolds & Gloucestershire. All the ex-Cheltenham Ladies College women want to talk to to "The Aussie". :D

I ain't complainin'. :p:

I'm having trouble explaining the 'Queen of Australia' thing to my Spanish teachers...

Not many Aussie accents here, so not a JAFA.

Although, we are a common lot. Every time I say I'm from Australia the answer is; 'oooo, Kangaroo!'. (visualise Latino with hands held like paws in front of chest) Reply, 'Yes, I'm a kangaroo'...Good one.

Getting bored of this so the new reply is:
'No, La mina de China', translated 'No, the mine of China'.

They don't quite get it though.

No Yanky accent left?

kennas, I was wondering what you thought (quick comment maybe) of the recent publicity about France's involvement in Rwanda (not that I fully understand the accusations) ?

'France played major role in Rwanda genocide'
August 6, 2008

France played an active role in the 1994 Rwanda genocide, a report unveiled by the Rwandan government said, naming French political and military officials it says should be prosecuted.

"French forces directly assassinated Tutsis and Hutus accused of hiding Tutsis... French forces committed several rapes on Tutsi survivors," said a justice ministry statement released after the report was presented in Kigali.

The 500-page report alleged that France was aware of preparations for the genocide, contributed to planning the massacres and actively took part in the killing.

It named former French prime minister Edouard Balladur, former foreign minister Alain Juppe and then-president Francois Mitterrand, who died in 1996, among 13 French politicians accused of playing a role in the massacres. The report also names 20 military officials as being responsible.

"Considering the seriousness of the alleged crimes, the Rwandan government has urged the relevant authorities to bring the accused French politicians and military officials to justice," the statement said.

The 1994 genocide in the central African nation left around 800,000 people -- mainly minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus -- dead, according to the United Nations

Mugabe today is reported as arranging to fly his wife, extended family and flunkies out of Harare.

It is amazing that a monster like this can bankrupt the breadbasket of southern Africa, and still manage to escape with his hangers on and family to live a life of leisure in a foreign country.

He is a monster writ large, in the manner of Hitler, Himmler, Tojo and the Japanese emperor.

When will these tyrants ever meet their just ends.

Never in Africa by the appearances of today and the past.

Im amazed he hasnt been assasinated ! Where is he planning escaping to ? Surely not a Western country as he is undeniably racist against Westerners and more specifically whites.

A contact in an embassy in Harare reckons he is hoping to get the memsab out to France and he is hoping for Venezuala. The memsab likes to shop!!

Well maybe the cleanest way to get a bloodless coup in Zimbabwe is to allow Mugabe to exit safely - at least initially. Cornered rats will fight to the end.

It would be fantastic if he did leave and that Zimbabwe can be rescued. Making sure Mugabe is brought to account could come later:2twocents

How valuable is life?

Could not accept the reality tonight -
- a ship goes 300 miles out of its way to save the lives of TWO men off the coast of Canada...
- thousands of Zimbabweans dying from Cholera and malnutrition

80% of health care workers have left the country and those who are left are not paid so many don't go to work.

Why can't someone shoot Mugabe?
Why is there no African/UN structure to remove him?
How can the world tolerate this continuum of values of lives!

Because the West is more concerned with political correctness, and keeping a monster like this in power.

Similar excesses occur in other African countries but the progressive forces say nothing.

This gives the appearance that the west is not paternalistic.

Until recently South Africa was led by a dingbat called Mbeki, who refused to acknowledge that HIV could be managed by medications , preferring instead to direct his health department to prescribe garlic and herbs to manage the epidemic. Millions are now dying.

And this was the guy the UN tasked with sorting out Zimbabwe.

Africa is stuffed.

Zimbabwe 20 years ago fed all of southern Africa. Mugabe drove all the white farmers out and let layabouts and cronies sit on their fat arses letting the land go fallow.

We owe our dna to Africa but it is the grave for too many now to ignore.

Mugabe is a monster, out of touch with reality.

Disaster on South Africa's doorstep

Date: December 12 2008

MUSINA: South Africa has declared a cholera disaster on its border with Zimbabwe, as a spillover from a deadly epidemic strains health resources.

"The provincial government took a decision that the whole of the Vhembe district should be declared a disaster area," a northern Limpopo provincial government spokesman, Mogale Nchabeleng, said yesterday.

In contrast, the Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, said in a nationally televised speech that "there is no cholera" in his country, saying doctors had tamed an outbreak.

The Vhembe district includes Musina, a town at the 24-hour border crossing between South Africa and the cholera-hit town of Beitbridge, Zimbabwe.

The disaster status would free up funding and focus relief efforts, Mr Nchabeleng said.

"It helps to cut on government bureaucracy and speed up the pace of the response."

South Africa's Health Minister, Barbara Hogan, visited the affected region on Wednesday.

Musina is the entry point for thousands of migrants fleeing the humanitarian crisis in Zimbabwe, where the death toll has risen to 775.

Eight people had died of cholera in Limpopo province, two of them South African, and 664 cases had been treated, health officials said. Aid agencies have warned of Zimbabwe's cholera crisis spreading to neighbouring countries, and the region's shared waterway, the Limpopo River, has tested positive for cholera.

In a televised address Mr Mugabe denounced calls by the British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and the US President, George Bush, for him to step down. "Because of cholera, Mr Brown wants a military intervention. Bush wants military intervention because of cholera.

"There is no cause for war any more. The cholera cause doesn't exist any more."

He now says he is Zimbabwe.

He accuses the Brits of planting cholera in the soil 20 years ago to cause an epidemic in 2008.

What an absolute tosser.

Amazing in this world of sabotage and terror that someone simply hasn't taken the narcissistic bastard out!

Amazing in this world of sabotage and terror that someone simply hasn't taken the narcissistic bastard out!

Not surprising when you consider the gutless reaction of the UN and the world powers to the Somali pirates. The various navies have been told just to scare them off and not take them prisoners
Because international rules are still unclear about where the pirates could be detained and where they could be tried

The British Navy has been told not to hand them over to the government authorities in the capital, Mogadishu, because they would be put up against a wall and shot. Even pirates have rights apparently. They have been told not to take them prisoner because they would claim asylum in the UK, and this would probably be granted.

The Chinese are sending warships there to protect their own cargo ships. Maybe they will not be so wimpish.

There is talk in Harare and Bulawayo over the weekend that the end is near for Mugabe and Zanu-PF. An internal coup and then probably civil war.

More money than usual is being transferred overseas to an as yet unidentified Asian nation which has agreed to give the monster and his cronies a place to hide.

The Zim dollar is so worthless it must be leaving the poor folk in an even worse situation than before.
