Had the Allies failed to achieve a landing in Western Europe I can't help but think that the Soviet Union would have overwhelmed the Nazi's and the border between the USSR and the west in Western Europe would have been the English Channel.
That would have made for a vey uneasy peace post-war.

I'm sure they were, which is why the allies eventually won because they forced the Yanks to get involved.
But what would have happened if the Japs had stayed out of it? Would the Yanks have ever joined in?
Apparently Bush's grandfather was Hitler's banker and I think there were other business relationships there as well.
If the Yanks had stayed neutral, the whole of Europe, including the UK, would have been under German rule and, if all of the German scientists had remained loyal to Hitler, I imagine their technology would have been far superior to that of the Russians so the Russians probably would have eventually succumbed as well.
However, the nazis being the ruthless b******s they were, the anti-nazi German scientists would have shown some "creative incompetence" and frustrated Hitler's plans, and then there probably would have been a war between a weaker nazi Europe and Russia followed by a whole lot of other conflicts as well.
Whatever happened, I doubt that overall we'd be any better off under German domination than we are under US domination. We'd certainly be more subjugated and probably more disciplined. Maybe our cars would be more reliable. I doubt that the feminist uprising would have been allowed to develop as it has.
Anyway, I've just obtained a copy of "Fatherland" so I'm now going to sit back and explore the "what if" scenario.

Against my better judgement I will post again on this thread.
I have friends who lost the majority of the members of their families through the genocide of this monster.
There is no reasonable matter on which this monster can be discussed of in relation to achievement or "getting things done"
He murdered and tortured millions of innocent men, women and chidren.
He was a racist.
He was a fascist monster.
Let him rot, and I ask you to finish this thread.
It demeans us all to discuss him in the manner suggested by the title of this thread.

The thread would have been spawned by, Times interview published on 4 July 2009, with Bernard Charles "Bernie" Ecclestone , the billionaire sports entrepreneur, particularly F1.
Why anyone would even take a whimper of thought, towards any of his comments outside of F1 is beyond me.
Like a lot of people on this forum, my history sadly but proudly includes fallen heroes that though their sacrifice successfully triumphed over a megalomaniac ********.
What is to be learned ? Is how not to be lead to their ruin (thank God) by such tools.

Just watched "Hitlers Last Year" documentary and the footage shows the worst extremes of human beings. Footage of Goebbels six children he murdered with cyanide lying side by side, the concentration camps with bags of human hair and piles of shoes and spectacles and the survivors with both body and mind broken. The Russian invasion right up to the "bunker"in Berlin raping and plundering along the way. The Dresden bombing and city in flames.
Human conflict where one individual smites another and one country attacks another has always happened and it seems inevitable that it always will. Insanity - the signs are unmistakable.

I thought the Goebbels's kids were poisoned by their own crazy mother?
Also crazy to hear how businesses back then were promoting their tools and service to the Nazi as though it's business as usual. There's the oven manufacturers pitching how their ovens are more efficient at burning bodies; IBM's machine to more efficiently find and organise the murder of people; Coke making Fanta.

Hitler got things done? Well yes he did, no real doubt about that. He got quite a lot of things done.
But let's just say I'd rather have 50% of a good thing done than have 100% of a bad thing done. Hitler got things done, but they weren't exactly good things to be doing in the first place.

Saw it in a doco. Also in, i think, the movie Down Fall - which many historians thought was a very accurate picture, worth checking out.
Their mother was quite devoted to the cult. Albert Speer (Hitler's literal architect and friend) visited the bunker and told the mother to take the kids away, or let him take them, at least they will survive. But a world without Hitler is a world not living, or something like that, so she poisoned them herself - it's really messed up watching that part.

I disagree. Unless those actual atrocities can somehow be erased from the past, then I believe that there is more to be gained from open discussion than censorship.
That particular war in some ways serves as a reminder of the dangers of rampant idealism and the imprudence of thinking that the ends will somehow justify the means.
