The morning is frowned on for trading, people saying to wait until it settles and picks direction, lots of beginners queueing up with market price buy orders, etc.

If that is the case, I'm wondering do some people regularly use this first 15 min as their chance to offload? ie, anybody take advantage of this as part of their trading plan?

From my observation all sorts of games are played including SP manipulation

Buyers order price well in excess of last SP for small quantity

Sellers asking low price for small quantity

Hi, this is something i have wondered about too,

Have read somewhere that it doesnt really settle till 11am and that you should definitly steer clear of the old monday mornings.

I myself have no idea. Has anyone else found these statements to be true and what if any are your guys own preferences when it comes to times to stay away from the market?

There is a preopen "auction" which sees buyers and sellers jumping the queue to be in a better position to get their order filled on opening. I have often used it myself. If you get a detailed quote just before opening you will often see buyers offering more that the expected opening price. There is always the chance that sellers may up their price an you order may be filled at a higher price than you wanted but not higher than you offered. The same applies if you try to jump the queue as a seller. It can't be used in the first minutes of trading . It must be used preopen. It is easy to check out.
