As part of my continuing efforts to get more traffic to Aussie Stock Forums, I'm doing a bit of market research.

Can you all please tell me which search engines you use regularly? Not just the one you use the most but all of them. They can be Australian or international.

Thanks!

i found this site when I did a search on google. It was on the right hand side of the page in the advertising section.

An ad on google is probably the most effective way to attract more readers and members to a site. No other search engine has an equally brilliant way to sell advertising. All other sites are a mess compared to Google. I used to check webwombat.com.au and I still use it every now and then if I want to focus on Australian sites. But Google.com.au has come a long way since and there is little reason to use anything else IMHO. At least as long as you're looking for something like stock market info or other "general" topics.

If you have to do some research for a very particular, special topic of which not many sites may exisit, then it's probably a different story. But for most "every day" things it will be very hard to beat Google.

Happy trading

Stefan

Threads keep coming back from the dead!

I think rainylake is trying to qualify for the stock tipping competition.

Yes folks, this thread is an example of how desperate I was to generate conversation on ASF five years ago! :D

Good morning Joe,
75% of searches for information are via Google
the remaining are via a Web Ferret search.

With the Ferret by far the best overal search device, ever !
Because it looks into all Search Engines throughout the World at once.

HOWEVER
most times, from a site that has information I need, I then explore via their LINKS Page, which most times would appear to be the best way to find information.

To me, a LINKS page arrangement seems to be very important on any web site.

Kind regards,
UB

For 90%, the unavoidable google, but I often use alltheweb.com as a cross reference (on the contrarian principle that popularity is by definition untrustworthy).

Google, and bing.

On another note, it's interesting to see how many of these other engines are still actually around, or more accurately - living in obscurity.

It's all Google but have a look at this series on SEO. it will give you a more detailed guide , I've had more experience with this than most so feel free to ask me anything if you're stuck.

This is about real estate but just take the main points as applying to all sites, then move on to part 2

This site loads very slow for some, let me know if you experience that and I'll pass it on to the owners who I know.
