They Should Ban Jumps Racing!!! Not nice for kids watching them get put down.

1. Unnecessary risk of injury to horses.

2. A competitive game or other recreational event with a clearly defined means of winning with the opposite outcome constituting a "loss".

Horse racing doesn't bother me that much, it's duck shooting that I take issue with. Quite simply, there is a clear way to "win" in that you shoot ducks. But very rarely do I hear of anyone actually losing - ie being shot. The ducks aren't armed, and as such it's very much a one sided "competition".

The usual defence of duck shooting goes along the lines of "numbers are good this year". Maybe, but there's 7 billion or so humans on the face of the earth, clearly a lot by any measure, and yet I don't hear anyone suggesting we shoot them for "sport".

I'll stick to sports with humans, balls, engines or whatever but not those involving animals unless it's something that causes no harm to them.

Don't get me wrong I also despise jumps racing and duck shooting. However, I have no problem whatsoever with horse racing or greyhounds for that matter.

I like it during the Spring Carnival and I spend a lot of time working out who to bet on for the Melbourne Cup but otherwise don't follow it that much. I am taking a passing interest in Black Caviar's fortunes and make a point of watching her when I can, she is so far ahead of the rest that it's great to watch her win I find it depressing to bet on a on a regular basis as it's too easy to lose money! (At least for me it is : )

I love horse racing.
I have many friends who are members at Flemington and I grew up near there and still live near there.
My father in laws cousin owns Black Caviar.

Horsey people love horses.
You can see at the races that everyone loves horses deeply. My (now deceased) uncle used to train a few horses as a hobby and when they couldn't race anymore he used them to tow his milk cart. If you visit Mt Macedon you can see the many old horses being looked after though they are too old to race.

When Black Caviar won at the last race we all cheered and listened to the speeches even though the odds were so short that barely anyone even bothered having a bet.

I have a family friend whose wife trains horses for the country races.
These "picnic races" are delightful where we sample local produce and wine and meet farmers and relax and have a great time.

I hate the pokies because they are evil,souless and alienating. Horse racing on he other hand is fun, witty and nice. I met Molly Meldrum's brother last time I was there. It is so social and everyone dresses up and I saw a few Liberal politicians from a short distance. There is also the thrill of the horses running past that is hard to express to people who have never gone.

I love horses, I love riding horses and I love horse racing. And if you knew about horses you will see that they love racing as well, just like we humans do.

So you can say I love the "sport of Kings" and am with the Queen on this one.

In South Australia last year, 1 in 22 horses that competed in a jumps race is now dead.

There are NO fulltime trainer solely reliant on jumps racing.

Punter interest is next to nothing

Jumps racing kills and injures horses at an unacceptable rate purely for the entertainment of a minority.

Its time for it to be banned

I've heard from one top Melbourne jockey that the thoroughbred champions really love getting out on the track. They also love the early morning trainings, the roll in the sand and hose down afterwards, the brushing and grooming, the expert attention to their health and well being and the relationship with their jockey and handlers/strappers. Sounds like a good life to me.

Jumps racing is a different kettle of fish, of course.

Yeah. Very upseting when the macca's van arrives to take the the fallen horse away. Kids aren't dumb. They know where it is going.

I wonder what they did before they were domesticated, probably just hung around hoping a monkey would jump on its back with a big stick and give it a good whipping.

Find the owners. Sit on their back and whip the living daylights out of them whilst they run. Keep whipping.

That might change their perspective somewhat.
