Piercings

Thanks,
I finally said yes last night...As a reward for her listening to my advice most of the time.

Felt good saying "yes" for a change...Mum's hip afterall lol.

Vicki:)

I don't have any piercings or tats myself... don't see the point really and I don't find them attractive in any way. A beautiful person, physically and mentally, needs no adornment IMO. (as an aside one of my favourite quotes is - "you don't have to be beautiful to be beautiful")

But if others want to have them, c'est la vie. In most situations society has become sufficiently liberal to accept them without judgement (though extreme cases would likely limit employment opportunities for sure).

I have met enough really decent human beings covered in tats and/or piercings to not judge by them. One of the best conversations I ever had with a stranger was a guy with tats, piercings and dreads. Plenty of @ssholes around with not a piercing or tat in sight as well.

Just my :2twocents

No piercings, studs, tats or anything like that. My daughter just has the usual ear piercing and son has nothing last I noticed... they're both adults now.

I don't even wear a watch or ring any more after having a close call with it getting caught on passing objects and nearly ripping my arm off.

Similarly with loose clothing... bludy dangerous getting caught in machinery or passing door knobs, gate latches gear sticks etc. Hardly even wear many clothes when I can get away with it. :D

In 5 years time you may look back on that decision.
And say, Oh Yeah.
We did!!
Cheers . over and out!

I wasn't passing any judgement in my earlier post - just expressing my opinion of tongue piercing! And I would still like someone to satisfy my curiosity on that question.

I agree that teenagers having strange body piercings is their way of making a statement, and sometimes you have to trust that they will become sensible in time (which most of them do). My daughter pestered me to allow her to have her ears pierced when she was quite young. I consented because it didn't seem to be a big issue, and she was never a troublesome child. It turned out to be a good move. In her late teens she went off and had her navel pierced (to my disgust!) but now she is a very respectable pillar-of-society married mother of small children and wears discreet diamond studs in her ears. I have no idea about the belly button ring, and am not going to ask!

Mrs and I don't even wear wedding rings any more. (We trust each other)

I worked with a girl once who had a tongue stud. I was morbidly fascinated by this wretched silver ball in her mouth and could not drag my eyes away from it when speaking to her. At the same time I felt complete revulsion! I must have appeared awfully rude!
I know what you mean, Ruby. A few years ago I was tutoring a bikie gang member in literacy. (He couldn't read or write and had had an immensely disruptive early life).

He was simply covered with tattoos, no area of plain skin. That was OK. And he had multiple smallish piercings in ears, eyebrows etc. That was OK also.
But he had the most enormous nose ring. Just can't imagine the pain of having it done. It was the size of, say, three ordinary wedding rings in both diameter and thickness.

I, like you, just couldn't stop looking at it.

LOL.

I have tattoos.

I do not have piercings. I havefriends that do and they are entitled to decorate there bodies how THEY see fit.

I bet a lot of the folk here that posting against piercings have pierced ears tho.

Why do YOU pierce your ears?

Body decoration?

um so why do you look down or in awe at other areas of body decoration.

Just because YOU may not like/understand it dont make YOU any better/smarter/more savvy in Business etc etc

like a bloody CWA meeting around this joint at times

Small mindedness and hypocrisy abounds ....

Different people decorate themselves in different ways. some have earrings , some have nose rings , some wear red some wear blue .. whats the problem ? .its ok to have one but not the other ?

no offenses intended of course

Which biker club was he associated with?

Vicki:)
The Nomads. Why?
He was a really nice bloke. I learned a lot about bikie culture.

No one is making any claims to be smarter in business etc etc.
It's just another topic of conversation.
Anyone can express their opinion, to which they are quite entitled.

Such opinions are - at least so far - purely about the aesthetics of piercings.
I haven't seen anyone cast aspersions about the character of anyone with piercings or tattoos.

You are never hesitant to express your views. Don't deny others the same privilege.

.

So just because YOU or others dont find the aesthetics of someones body decorations attractive, it makes it strange/odd/out of place with YOUR opinion of what is deemed acceptable?......

I personally find people wearing shorts with knee high socks rather strange too , but do i question why they dress that way? ..no.....

My personality is willing to accept that different ppl like to dress/decorate themselves to there own personal taste not because some busybodys out there feel thats how they are supposed to look in acordance with there own small minded outlook on the world and its inhabitants.

a Friend of mine has a green(varies in colour) mohawk, tattoos , and a bloody great big nose ring.
He also owns a city nightclub, a major security firm and various automotive businesses in a city metro area......
He likes to decorate himself that way and ppl he does business with/friends/family Accept his personal style with no discrimination or scorn as that is who he is .... a big ,bright, loud sorta larger than life personality.

its a sad thing actually that so many people miss out on so many experiences because of there own small minded thinking

that was my opinion it may not agree with your outlook, so does that make it wrong?

not picking a fight just annoyed with the small minded views of some around here.

cheers

My brother-inlaw is associated with some of these people, Out-laws & Coffin-cheaters as well.

I dropped some of my opinions of them, when they all turned up with a truck, to help us move house last Feb....some good people indeed.

Vicki:)
p.s.can't judge a book by it's cover.

My daughter and I have pierced ears, one on each -- I suppose each to their own.

I just think with the tongue piercing it affects their speech so why would they?

Wearing high heels for so many years that your ligaments seize up, such that you can no longer wear flat soles - now that is grotesque. But not uncommon.

Studs/piercings you can at least remove.

For the record Logique steers clear of both, but will admit to admiring the high-heeled ones of the female persuasion.

I have always been curious about tongue piercings - can't imagine why anyone would put themselves through what must be extreme pain and discomfort. The tongue is so sensitive! It must also be very unhygenic.
You can't imagine why? C'mon Ruby, a little imagination please :p:

When I was in the USA. I went to Miami Ink and got myself a tattoo.

It wasn't a spur of the moment thing. I thought for years about it and decided to get one and it was at the most famous tattoo place there is.

It's on my back. It was originally meant to cover up the stretch mark scars I got when I had my growth spurt but ended up doing the tat above my scars which attracted attention away from it anyways :)

Thanks Mofra... now you've made me flush with embarrassment!! I don't need to be taught to suck eggs, but the question still remains.

Interesting turn of phrase there Ruby.

Hi Wayne, It's an old expression........ no pun was intended!!! I seem to be digging myself into a hole here :banghead:, so perhaps I should pack up what's left of my dignity and retire from the discussion.

Hi Dowdy,

When you were at Miami Ink, did you get to meet Kat' Von D & Arni?

Who did the tatoo?

Just curious, as the kids sometimes watch Miami Ink on fox-tel.[myself included].

I'm amazed at the amount of attractive young women who walk in off the street, & want some sort of large tatt' often covering most their back or arms etc.

Vicki:)
