Interesting the way some people , after 20 or 30 years of marriage say they don't love the other any more (happened to a mate of mine after 32 years married).

I believe if you truly loved them in the first place you still would, you don't fall out of real love.

No actualy I dont like her at all, it's just that I've been looking after her for so long it's a hard habit to break.

Got married for the wrong reasons, she was gorgeous and I didnt look much deeper than that..........yes I'm an idiot but that's what makes the world go round.

Couldn't agree more, have friends who are engaged and it's like watching a slow moving train wreck. Too financially entwined to get out of it. Shame, she's hot

Seen that one too many times to remember both with "love" and other things. Stand back and take a proper look at what's really happening - here comes a train wreck...

Easiest way to spot these impending disasters is to find even the slightest hint that the benefits of the the relationship, as viewed by those in it, are in any way related to material posessions, finances, status etc. Not hard to see why those relationships fail once the inevitable realisation occurs that it's effectively a financial contract and nothing else. Sad but I've seen it a lot.

Wayne, those kids' responses are gorgeous. Pity we don't retain the wisdom of the young as we get older.

Deja vu . I wouldn't say they are wise, just very perceptive in a way we usually are not as adults. I don't think we lose it, but brush it aside when we develop our adult perspective. I think we can bring it out as well.

"The 5 love languages" somes this up pretty well.

Each person has a different love language and the reason alot of people break up etc.. is because they dont understand the other persons love language hence what they think is love etc.. to their partner it could be completely different. I found this helped with my relationship.

not that i entirely disagree, but there is a school of though that most relationships are based, to some extent, on the above.

take for instance arranged marriages...I dont believe the failure rate is higher than traditional western courtship ritual

IMO, initial attraction, based on essentially lust, which triggers various hormonal and behavioural change are just as likely to fail as well.

spose it takes combination of good judgement, good luck and hard work, like most things, to succeed.

I see the predominant love language he talks is "I love having physical closeness" and for she "I love having money and things". Not often admitted because real people are rare. Being real, but life is a stage and we`re all actors, right.

1) must be kind hearted...any evidence of harshness or cruelty, forget it
2) similar intellectual capacity
3) matched sex drives
4) similar assets
5) know the person for long enough for initial chemistry to wear off
