Here we go again.

Greedy politicians, this time from the Labor side, filching the hard earned fruits of good Queenslanders' labours to line their own pockets.

Gaol time is the only deterrant .

A Royal Commission is the only way to find out the truth and get the Rats out of their protected holes.

David Marriner has described how he had the hard word put on him by appartchiks on the make.

A VETERAN developer has detailed explosive claims of how his refusal to "play the game" of lobbyists and fundraising functions with Labor may have scuttled his billion-dollar project.

David Marriner yesterday told The Courier-Mail he felt his money would be safer in South America, which he said had less corrupt processes and procedures than Queensland.

This wont work! Nor do we need one! Do you just want to line the pockets of lawyers now?

There is a very simple way to stop this happening, yet no one will do anything about it, as it will hurt the politicans who are yet to retire or those who are yet to be dumped out of their seats.

So ... get use to it.

This matter has been covered in another thread titled "Banana Benders at it Again!" but your title is more apt.

This paragraph in The Australian yesterday gets to the nub of the matter;

And like Western Australia, Queensland has only one daily newspaper to hold the government to account, with the electronic media often proving naive and superficial

No doubt they are referring to the Courier-Mail. So, in the absence of an effective Opposition we have to rely on the press to expose political corruption.

There is no doubt that the editors are fully aware of this corruption, but the C-M is now a tabloid, and it knows that it's readers are more interested in the fortunes of their RL football teams than in political corruption.

A Royal Commission, Gaol, Backs to the Wall, Soap and Shame, are the best deterrents against corruption for politicians.

Sounds a little like apathy Stockson. Even though it sticks in my claw too about the lawyers, can't let Governments get away with corruption - it has to be dealt with else anarchy will be next.

And just because KRudd got away with it, doesn't mean the rest can!!:D

Cheers

Well its Friday afternoon and its time to turn the brain off for the weekend, however I will say this: Queensland has a long long long long history of jobs for the boys (and girls). So, you ban any poltician, no matter how long they have held a seat from advising, consulting, working, or any other type of work that has any direct or indirect relationship to any possible area of government, and any area of government that could benefit a firm from having inside knowledge.

So, they can run a corner store, should they wish, yet they would be banned from running, working or sitting on any board of any PR firm, advertising, mining, transport, finance, telecoms or such company for a min period of 7 yrs (maybe 5yrs), or until the government they served was booted out and the otherside was in - provided a min, or 3 yrs had passed.

You also ban any polticial appointments, such as Beatties little jolly to LA and the like. They must return the REAL world once they are gone and must work within those confines.

The avg. polly holds his/her seat for some 5+ yrs, so they will collect their pension, they can sit back and buy a newsagency and wait. This will remove them long enough so as to be outside the arena of any influence, knowledge of how a department may work, heads of depts could have moved on as well any possible changes in law could effect any previous knowledge they have. Further, should the opposition be in power (which ever side it is) would have less inclination to 'assist' someone from the otherside - if you know what I mean?

Further, they should have their bank accounts audited once a yr by a REAL auditor and their expenses and income should be closely matched.

It might all sound hard and harsh, yet like any job etc if you know the rules before you apply for it then you will have to abide by it. So as with Mr Nuttall, he could not hide the money because and audit of school fee's, bank accounts etc would have found he did not have sufficient income or assets to cover his expenditure.

As I say, its almost the weekend, and I want to wind down, yet thats a general idea of my way of thinking.

Things that make you go Hmmmmm....................

So, is this a truthfull representation of the facts?

I at least know that the bit about white Australians stuffing up the Murray Darling, is true.

July 31, 2009
Article from: Australian Associated Press

A QUEENSLAND "Labor mate" did a deal with the government to exempt a Chinese mining company from environmental laws on Cape York, an indigenous youth leader claims.

Former Young Australian of the Year Tania Major confronted Premier Anna Bligh over her government's controversial wild rivers laws on ABC TV's Q&A program on last night.

Ms Major claims the environmental laws restrict the capacity of indigenous communities on the Cape to expand businesses and create much-needed jobs.

She now says the Chalco bauxite and alumina mine proposed for Aurukun received exemption from the laws because it was represented by former deputy premier turned lobbyist for the Enhance group, Jim Elder.

Meanwhile, small sustainable businesses had to wrangle with the environmental laws, condemning indigenous people to the "miserable scrap heap of poverty and social misery", she said.

"Why is Chalco exempt, a Chinese-owned, multi-million dollar mining company, and yet the people on the ground, the local people who want to participate in the wider Australian economy being affected by the wild rivers legislation?" Ms Major said.

"Dodgy government backdoor deals ... I think that's the way business is being done in Queensland, it's been evident over the last couple of days."

Ms Major also rejected Ms Bligh's comparison of Cape York's rivers to the Murray Darling river system, which she claimed could have been saved from ruin with similar laws.

"Murray Darling has been stuffed up by white Australians, I'm going to make that clear, by white Australians," she said.

"Cape York is in pristine condition because people practised conservation methods that has been passed down in 40,000 years of history.

"Why should we sit back and let people in the ivory towers of Brisbane and West End ... here in Brisbane decide how we should conserve the environment when we're on the ground practising it?"

Ms Major, who spoke on behalf of indigenous youth group Give Us A Go, supported calls for a royal commission into corruption in Queensland and urged the government to amend the wild rivers legislation with a land use agreement for indigenous people.

I agree.

Who cares if it greases the Lawyers palms, this is just how our economy works! And the tax payers take one for the team, soap and all.

At the end of the day there has to be a deterrent.

You, and I are pebbles in the ocean. I heard some poll having 92% for a Royal Commission. I am too old to fight against those odds.

We might as well just support it for what it's worth, and hope somebody can break these jobs for the boys and their fraudulent carry ons....

Simple really, stop voting LNP or Labor. The Voter has the ultimate power.

Voters were obviously happy to put Labor in power, ("lack of an effective opposition" is double speak speak for "lazy ass'd voter") they are obviously happy with a certain level of corruption, people knew they were corrupt going in, we have a litany of them being exposed over the last decade , only the really greedy or stupid get caught, the the stink of the entire lot wafts up the eastern seaboard.

Hell, K Rudd was in there up to his arm pits with them, not sure of any of the stick will rub off onto him though ? he does seem to have a high teflon factor with the voters for some reason.

You're dead right Trevor. Queenslanders expect their politicians to be corrupt, including the ones we export to Canberra. And there is nothing we can do about it except hope that they don't cream too much off the top.

There is now a total lack of trust amongst Queenslanders in their government.

Only a Royal Commission will weed out the criminal politicians, lobbyists, staffers and the rich who have exploited their criminality.

Tony Fitzgerald needs to be listened to.

As Nuttall said in court, before sentencing "There is nothing for nothing"

If developers, business people and miners are paying politicians money, they have to be getting favours in return, otherwise why pay it?

Lets have a Royal commission called asap.

gg, it is sad to see this great state teetering on the precipice again, whether it is real or perceived, the actions and behaviours are worthy of further independent scrutiny.

Let us not return to the days of Lewis, Burgess, Parker, Dwyer, Boulton, Herbert, et al......

Ms Bligh's Chief of Staff is a guy called Mike Kaiser. In 2001 He resigned his state seat of Woodridge and was kicked out of the Party after a Criminal Justice Commission found him guilty of branch stacking.

The Labor Party soon realised that a man of his talents was being wasted and he was forgiven and welcomed back into the Party's warm embrace.

This man, who rarely makes the news, is Bligh's chief adviser.

There is a simple solution, we need to vote the Governing party out every two terms. This will stop the complaceny. Issues seem to build up if someone is in power for an extended period.

Yep, I'd have to agree, similar to the US presidency?. Only problem is, governments may become short sighted - mmmmm...come to think of it, they already are!

Cheers
