Queensland "Corrupt State"

There is now a total lack of trust amongst Queenslanders in their government.

Only a Royal Commission will weed out the criminal politicians, lobbyists, staffers and the rich who have exploited their criminality.

Tony Fitzgerald needs to be listened to.

As Nuttall said in court, before sentencing "There is nothing for nothing"

If developers, business people and miners are paying politicians money, they have to be getting favours in return, otherwise why pay it?

Lets have a Royal commission called asap.

Yes GG I agree, but the burning question is "How do you go about it, what brings it on, is it a Government decision or CMC decision?"

If it is a Government decision, it will never happen. As you say it should happen and I for one would dearly like to see it also.

Pressure pressure pressure.

Thats what worked on the National Party, and it will work on Labor as well.

Lets bring on a Royal Commission with Tony Fitzgerald as Commissioner.

The latest poll as linked by Solly just demonstrates yet again how governments are elected, i.e. not because the voters are actually impressed by them (who would be impressed by J.P. Langbroek who has barely opened his mouth), but by the need to get rid of the incumbent.

A few voters have Independent candidates who are worth voting for, but many of us don't.

Wouldn't vote Green under any circumstances, so the choices are minimal.

Agree.... you wouldn’t know we had an opposition in NSW. In fact I can't even remember off the top of my head who is leading the state liberals here.
As far as I know the state might be worse off considering how much libs suck as an opposition.

What happened to the days when you looked at policy to gauge who you voted for. Questions people should be looking at, will they be responsible in their distribution of your tax dollars, will they implement efficient government, will their foreign policies attract criticism etc etc

Goodness, I can see why this country is called the lucky country, because it fails at being smart and still somehow we are financially strong.

Cheers

That’s just it though, what policy? I am far from a labor supporter (very far)

But for the average person on the street that does not know anything about politics..... Well the libs are just not visible. I think you are over estimating the average person’s interest in politics

Fair point, the average job blow probably cares more about the next hand out regardless if its fiscally responsible

It seems peoples focus these days is more on when the next consumer opportunity will arise!

I suppose Rome may have been like this during the end time.

Well Julia, I believe it has a lot to do with how each party uses and controls the media whether it is by TV or Newspapers and the Labor Party are champions in this department. They will jump at every chance to get their dirty noses up front to promote their propaganda. They are very selective of course because they know which of the media to stay away from.

Anna Bligh has something like 600 SPIN DOCTORS alone on the State Government payroll who are paid for by the Queensland Tax Payers.

The opposition parties have to some how get around the imbalance but unfortunately they don't have the machinary to do it.

You are right. I think that 600 spin doctors could make Langbroek a saleable product. They would have better material to start with than the completely uncharismatic Rudd, and the spin doctors have made him Mr 66%.

Julia,
As an adder to my previous thread, after reading today's Sunday mail headlines where the latest poll shows the state opposition in the lead 59-41.
John Paul Langbroek doen't have to say anything at the moment, Anna's doing it all for him.

Hopefully the same thing might just happen for the Federal opposition; Rudd's got to slip up soon.

Unfortunately this type of sanctioned corruption often leads to the rise of populist Fascist parties, masquerading as the saviours of the "ordinary bloke, family etc."

A similar period preceded fascism in Germany and Italy in the 1920's and 1930's, albeight in the context of extreme poverty and national malaise.

How Queensland politicians respond to the unanimous calls for a Royal Commission will determine the fringe groups responses.

The fact that Queensland Government Ministers have a criminal conviction and incarceration rate 22 times that of the average Queenslander makes me think that there is more to be uncovered, and thus a need to conceal from the public, by spin, the truth.

You're right, noco. But it would cheer me up to think we had an opposition that could actually stand up and make a damn difference.
