Einfeld gets 2 years

About time we got some proper justice in this country.
Now if only people who steal, bash, rape and murder got proper punishments too.

What about the woman who helped him in his concocted storey????

Last nite I was sickened when I saw a 15 year old girl steal a wallet from another woman at Maccas in Pitt street. I dont get how 15 year old kids are allowed to walk around the city at 11 at night, obviously high on drugs and upto no good. I feel sorry for the staff who work there and have to put up with these waste of space freeloaders.

"MARCUS Einfeld has been sentenced to at least two years' jail for repeatedly lying about a traffic offence.

Justice Bruce James today imposed a maximum three-year sentence on the 70-year-old retired judge at the New South Wales Supreme Court.

Einfeld had pleaded guilty to perjury and making a false statement with intent to pervert the course of justice to avoid a $75 speeding ticket in 2006."

I thought she is dead?

I suggest that the penalty he received is simply beause he was a judge. If it was your average mug punter I doubt if it would be anything like this, probably only a fine.

Your joking right. The maximum penaly for perjury is 10 years.

"Einstein" should think himself lucky for only getting a maximum of 3 years.

Yeah. Just jokin.
By the way, I'm not actually trying to defend him.
But it is a bit pathetic, how one little lie (in the beginning) can lead to this. I guess he thought he was above the law. :D

Actually, no, I wasnt jokin.
This is what the sentencing judge said................

Justice James referred to the offences as striking "at the heart of the administration of justice''.

"Any lawyer, and especially a lawyer who has been a barrister and a judge, who commits such an offence is to be sentenced on the basis that he would have been fully aware of the gravity of his conduct,'' he said.

I wonder if this was a worthwhile exercise.

Ok the offence was bad but he didn't hurt anyone.
He got targeted because he was a judge and he did it because he thought he could get away with it.

However, there are much worse offences which get even lower punishment than what he got. Justice perhaps has been served here but at what cost?
IMO the state could have spent the money on something more worthwhile.

A case such as this should have been solved with a large on the spot fine and if he wanted to contest it he would have had to pay for the legal expenses himself.

I think he should be doubly, triply punished, *because* he was a judge. Reasoning being they are meant to be the most upstanding member of society, and others look up to and rely on such a member as being in this position. For them to openly lie is even worse than some mug of the street doing so.

Same for our sports "stars" that break the law.. more punishment than regular people. They are paid big bucks to be role models, not scumbags.

And you did nothing? With the exception they were holding a knife or other obvious weapon, I would have thought doing something about it may curb this behaviour in future.

During his time on the bench the man in question sentenced over 6 people to jail for commiting perjury!!

Just deserts for a man who considered himself above the law

I hope he doesnt meet any former clients in his new place of abode:eek:

I don't believe he will do any tough time at all.

To be honest it would suprise me if he got more than a holiday, such is the favour. With good behaviour, 6 months tops, then home detention...

Pathetic really....:2twocents

I don't know much about the case, except what I read, but sentencing a 70 year old for lying, for 2 years ... its pretty much a death sentence. The tax payers will be paying for 2 years to keep this 'creep' off the streets for lying about a speeding fine. A massive fine, say $500K or more would probably be better justice.

No one is above the law, but what benefit to the community is being served by locking this guy away. A warning to others ? Every drug mule you lock away or execute, another one does the same thing the next day regardless.

It's debatable, whether the punishment fitted the crime ... although while I don't rule against some jail time ... I was surprised by the duration. Yes , I agree lying in court is a very serious offense.

This one is not dead - when it came out that his original alibi was playing a harp and worrying about dry cleaning bills for her new wings this woman stepped in and said that she was driving the car.

I have some pity for her - you can imagine this ahole as his story began to unravel - "Believe me dear, I know how this works, as long as you stick to the story then they'll let me off. I really need your help" etc etc.

Given his 2 years, I's say that she could be facing jail time too and all for being suckered and being willing to help. Silly in hindsight but I'd reckon in the same position many of us could have found ourselves in her position.

she deserves everything she gets and I hope it is gaol time. There are too many tinkerers like her clogging up the judicial system.

He was dead unlucky some Jurno saw the name on the court list and went along for a look then her boss decided to google the "drivers" name and found out she was dead so Iron fell decided to concoct another lie and kept digging a bigger hole...just like out pollies do ... could be worse he could have been forced to live with Robots and talking about RE appreciating.Couldn't have happen to a nicer bloke.

Instead of jail time, what about a ridiculous amount of time doing 'community service'. I am sure they, the perpetrators, can 'think' about what they have done, while benefiting the community ... just can't see the benefit for us tax payers having to fork out money for food and lodging for this (what danger to the community are these folk) ... yes there is the 'principle' of what they have done ... but at the end of the day ... who benefits from having a lock and key attitude with this.

I think she should do gaol time rather than community service. I'm involved in a non profit org and some of these people turn up late, have sick notes and don't actually work. Some time in the slammer could get her doing some laundering.
Her type of interference in process is similar to Lady Sangster's involvement with the right wing in the UK, a bit of money often unearned, a degree of believability and a gullible press leads to dangerous consequences. Laundry work for a month or two would be my suggestion.
