The recipients of the dole have a right to privacy , those who make the money to give to them don't.

Working in a mine doped up to the eye balls is a safety issue. Sitting on a couch feeling sorry for yourself playing on a playstation smacked out is not.

DUMB! Maybe they should have to blow under 0.05 as well?

I think a good start would be for Centrelink to work with Inspectors to report the sly-grogers who prey on dole recipients in remote communities.

If they didnt get the dole unless they were clean it might encourage them to get off the **** then they might even get a job !!!

Ya reckon? it doesn't stop footy players and they have more to lose.

May work in fairy land but from what I have seen a lot would find ways to get $'s that will cost you and I more - unfortunately.

Getting something for nothing wth no accountability is fairy land too but thats whats happening.

Are you saying that a large % of voters are unemployed drug and alcohol takers?

Quite a silly thread when unemployment is blowing out due to macro factors beyond individuals control. Many people who have never been unemployed will be sacked in the next 6-12 months or so. Their government has failed them spectacularly; so why should they be subjected to draconian measures that further erodes their sense of self-worth (and make no mistake about it, six-months on a dole queue filling out forms will be a depressing state of affairs for many) .

If I was to be 'retrenched' in the next 6-12 months (and who knows what is goingto happen) you bet I'll be drawing a dole check and getting sloshed. Paid enough taxes in my life.

Not stating there is a majority as I don't know. However, elections have been known to be down to the wire at times and I think politicians would be reluctant to upset any potentially useful voting power.

It's a great idea in theory, but I doubt that anyone addicted to drugs or alcohol are going to simply stop and go cold turkey just because there's no more money. I'm guessing it would possibly cause a sudden acceleration in crime rates.

Turnbull relayed to the Parliament today the comments of Indigneous leaders in remote communities. He basically said "grog" is the problem and people need to be honest and face the problem!

Thats a whole new ball game, I believe that use should be deciminalised and production and sales should be dealt with as a major crime, years in the hole.

This would put the drug pushers out of work because you can get it for free round the corner and put the users under a program th help them get off it.

Do you know how much crime is drug related ??? almost all of it, this would cut the crime rate - why arent I PM ???

Sounds like a good plan - with a few grandkids still in their early years, it's a frightening prospect knowing the pressures they will be under to experiment and the resulting damage can be catastrophic. It would be great if such a plan would work, but I doubt that many drug users would actually want help. It would be too hard.

Only a few weeks ago, a young 23 year old hanged himself and was quite likely sent over the edge with drug use. Such a waste of a young life.
