Obamamania?

One standout aspect of Obamamania is the expectations of the black community. They see the inauguration as the most significant event for blacks since Lincoln emanciated the slaves. They see it as the realisation of Martin Luther King's dream, and a bright new future.

It is doubtful if this warm inner glow can survive the cold light of dawn when the priorities of government will put the advancement of the blacks as a special case well down the list of priorities.

The colour of Obama's skin will lose all relevance.

It is a great moment for the USA and black people everywhere, politics and economics dont matter, a black man is President of the USA and thats all they care about.

Wall street doesnt give a toss obviously.

In response to blanket, non-stop and seemingly-to-be-never-ending media coverage, I am preparing a little prayer to the Almighty for a week down the track...

"Oh Lord, PLEASE deliver us from the multitude media sins of the Obamafest during these never-ending days of unbridled Obamamania. A-men"

Or, should that be O-men?

:)

I don’t like the never-ending African-American being plastered.
Which in pure sense is child of African parents who was born in America.

To me he is half-African half-American if male sperm is more important (after all father left them if I got it right), or other way around if child bearing and rearing is.

He doesn’t play the race card, but everybody else just remains me of our 1/16 or 1/32 vocals.

I posted this yesterday under an obarmamania thread...it was on the share site ??

barak obama...and his organisation ACORN were at the grass roots of the sub prime mortgage racket......

does a leopard change its spots ???
well it looks like he might be in the process.....time will tell

here is an extract........................................... ..
and link to the full article is at the bottom

ACORN showed its colors again in 1991, by taking over the House Banking Committee room for two days to protest efforts to scale back the CRA. Obama represented ACORN in the Buycks-Roberson v. Citibank Fed. Sav. Bank, 1994 suit against redlining. Most significant of all, ACORN was the driving force behind a 1995 regulatory revision pushed through by the Clinton Administration that greatly expanded the CRA and laid the groundwork for the Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac borne financial crisis we now confront. Barack Obama was the attorney representing ACORN in this effort. With this new authority, ACORN used its subsidiary, ACORN Housing, to promote subprime loans more aggressively.

I suppose we can expect the next big outburst of media Obamamania to come when the new dog is installed in the White House.:headshake

Yep. There will be pictures of the family leaving the most miserable dog pound in Washington with the new puppy. I can't help laughing at the thought of the house training happening on the plush carpets of the White House! Here's a hint, Mr President: soda water removes stain and smell of doggie doo doo.

America has sent about 30 thousand troops to Afghanistan to protect the free world from terrorism.

Yesterday about 40 thousand armed troops and police were deployed to protect a democratically elected President from his own people.

Best example that democracy does not work as it was hoped for.

Question is what is better alternative?

After all the glitter and hype of the past week where Obama held his fans spellbound and hanging on his every word, it is an anticlimax to return to the real world of our own home grown politicians, who rank so badly in the charisma stakes.

True believers may think that charisma doesn't count, but, let's face it, Rudd, Swan and Gillard (and the Opposition front bench) are never likely to captivate an audience with their oratory or style of delivery. Australia is probably the only country where you can be boring and win an election.

Some of our guys may have substance, but Obama has proved that if you have the charisma, and the right message, the rest will follow.

Whadaya mean? We've got Crash Gordon over here, perhaps the most boring (and sociopathic) politician ever born....

....oh that's right, he wasn't elected as PM, sorry.

Bygones :D

Good point Calliope
But it was more for protection against a terrorist attack. With two million people in the mall and another million in the side streets, it would have been ideal for suicide missions.

What did you think of Obama's speech 'call' to Muslims?

BTW -The inauguration itself was provided by donations and volunteers. The government paid for security.

Doris, did you read the full page article in The Australian yesterday on Obama's speech titled "Decoding the President?" The "call" to Muslims is very strong on imagery.

Apparently he is also expected to deliver a landmark speech in a large Muslim country, probably Indonesia, within months. This will be an interesting challenge for the translators and the decoders.

The dude's a politician.

I can let the US down now or they can find out for themselves later on, nothing of significance will change. I think they said it best on the south park episode about the very same thing :)

ah la Rudd.

Not Another Diana?:dunno:

From The Sunday Times
January 25, 2009
Michelle Obama: America's Lady Diana?
The First Lady has excited the fashion world, but like Diana she would rather champion the less fortunate than be a mere clotheshorse.

Michelle Obama’s flair for fashion has captivated Washington and set the hearts of glossy magazine editors aflutter. She has already eclipsed Carla Bruni, the super-model chanteuse and wife of Nicolas Sarkozy, the hyperactive French president. Not since Diana, Princess of Wales, has there been such a glamorous role model at the apex of society.

In her white, one-shouldered chiffon gown, she boogied to Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours and slow-danced with her husband at a succession of inaugural balls. Barack Obama held her lovingly around the waist, clasping two fingers around her back, and nuzzled her. Women’s Wear Daily, the influential American fashion magazine, said her ball gown made the Obamas look like newlyweds.
