Hey can anyone help me ...I've bought a new ipod and a new computer.
I want to transfer my library from my old computer to my new...but they won't let it happen...probably due to piracy concerns
I know theres software available that will let you do this ... has anyone got any reccommendations?
I'm totally frustrated and hate the idea of having to manually put my whole cd collection over to the new itunes library:mad:

you could use your ipod as a portable hard drive and just transfer the music to the other computer

grab a copy of mediamonkey - it has great integration with the whole range of ipods right through to touch.

I will let you copy the music from the ipod to the computer then you can just use itunes if you still think you need to, but mediamonkey even has podcast integration.

do a google on mediamonkey

As far as getting the stuff from the old computer - you can just burn a dvd of the itunes library - or use a portable hdd - the files are usually under itunes in your music directory. Then copy to the new computer.
Can you indicate if you're using a MAC or Windows?

Yeah thanks,
found a freeware software idump, seems to be working ok...
thought about it and probably should have just bought a cable so I could synch my old computer to my new.
talk about hassles though, to transfer my old library to my new manually would have taken me at least 8 hours to do...I'm thinking ipods are a bit of a scam:2twocents

No, those dopey pricks at Apple shouldn't be able to tell you what you can do with your own property.
The more people sheepishly fall for their glossy ipods, imacs and iphones the worse this is going to get.

If this was your car and the car maker was telling you you couldn't park in a certain car park, would you put up with it? F**K no you wouldn't. What's the difference then? Grow a pair and stand up for your rights!

cheers,

cheers,
I'm not real keen on Ipod's for this very reason. It's going to be a massive hassle (at best) when the format becomes obsolete and you want to transfer at least some of your music to some other device.

As for the cars, well there is one car (Nissan R35 GTR) that only runs to top speed when the GPS registers that it's on a manufacturer approved race track. Otherwise it's speed limited. Not sure about those headed for Australia, but to my understanding that's the set up in the Japanese domestic models. The speed limiter is disabled in vehicles destined for the US market.

I hear you, Smurf...

The Nissan must rock on those tracks!
But I've got music ripped from my own collection on my Media PC and tried to migrate it to my backup server upstairs and the trouble I had to get them to work was hell! I'm being forced by software / hardware developers on where I can suitably keep my property.
The only way I could get around the WMA licencing was to rip to MP3 and store that way.

I have a store purchased CD, the latest from Powderfinger that will not play on my home theatre PC using Window Media Player because it thinks it is a copy of their previous album "Vulture Street" and has been pirated!

Sony and Apple need to burn in a place that resembles hell!

Like i say I'm thinking it's a scam ...especially when if I want to give them a serve it costs me $1.25 a minute to talk to a consultant.
probably should have done another brand saying that ...it has served its purpose especialy at work where i get no radio or tv reception

If there's one lesson to be learned from the past 30 years of format wars in everything electronic it is that proprietary formats limited to one hardware manufacturer don't last too long.

My C Drive became too full (I didnt realise that ITunes actually makes a copy every song I had ever downloaded when it is put into the library) so I simply transferred ITunes to my D drive. Which of course dumped everything from the Library. I still had all my songs, movies etc on my iphone, but as soon as I synced, I would lose them all as it is a 'one way' transfer.

So onto the internet and google I go, pasted the problems and was advised to use this little beauty:
TRANSEE Iphone transfer from this rather excellent forum:

(almost as good as this one:p:)

and all is good!

I have been using a freeware product that you copy onto your ipod, it is called sharepod. This enables to to use your ipod on any machine without using itunes. the link is below, enjoy.

Great. Thanks Hesel!

I've been pondering on the same issue others talked about. Very frustrated when wanting to transfer files. Also hate the producers to tell you what to do!
