OK, who are the bright sparks amongst us?

Two questions below.

If no one gets them right, answers tomorrow.

1. Brain Teaser - If you had a 5-litre and a 3-litre bowl and
access to water. How would you measure exactly 4 liters?

2. Riddle: How many bricks does it take to complete a building
made of brick?

On the bowl one - fill the 3 litre bowl, empty it into the 5 litre bowl, then fill it again and empty into the 5 litre bowl until 5 litre bowl is full (i.e. add 2 more litres to the 5 litre bowl). The 3 litre bowl will now have only 1 litre left in it after doing this. So now tip out all water in 5 litre bowl and put the 1 litre from the 3 litre bowl into the 5 litre bowl and fill the 3 litre bowl again and add it to the 5 litre bowl to get 4 litres.

I'll have crack...

1. pour the 3l into the 5l bowl and mark the level. then fill the 5l. pour the 5l into the 3l until 2l (the level) has been reached. mark this level on the 3l bowl. empty the 5l and then fill twice from the 3l (up to the level, ie 2l).

2. one (brick is singular)

I know I've probably done something dumb.

Me too. Was much easier to google it than think about it, hence I refrained from posting it.

Here's the answer that came with the question: I'm now so confused with all the bowls and water that I can't figure out if what you're saying, Cuttlefish, is the same as the answer!! I had no clue in the first place how to do it.

Re the brick, you are all right, of course. Even I got that one.

- no thats a bit different to mine - though conceptually the same thing - I guess there'd be a fair few ways to do it. (5 minus 3 = 2 so somehow need to use that fact to get to 4) - I did it by subtracting 5 from 6 = 1 then adding 1 to 3 to get 4. The above example does it by subtracting 3 from 5 to get 2, subtracting 2 from 3 to get 1 and then subtracting 1 from 5 to get 4.

Guess I'll just have to call on your deductive skills if I ever need to work out anything involving bowls of water, Cuttlefish. Both methods seem incomprehensible to me. Interesting, isn't it, how some brains can process this sort of stuff and others can't. You're probably pretty good at doing those IQ tests.

how do you get 8L?

hint - I'm guessing you'll need to use a fridge to turn some to ice

I would of said none, because "a building made of brick" is already a building and thus complete. Anyone catch my drift?
