Is anyone else having a problem with accessing ASF via Internet Explorer?
For the last week or so I have intermittently been unable to get the site to completely download. The opening page comes up without any difficulty but then the bar at the bottom of the screen reads:

(2 items remaining) Downloading picture x click-but04.gif at www.paypal.com (secure web site)

Doesn't matter how long I wait, e.g. ten minutes, nothing more happens.
Try to access a thread and I get the egg timer and the screen freezes.
Eventually attempt to exit via top right corner red X and get the notice from Microsoft that the programme is not responding etc. Send error report to Microsoft and start over again. And again. And again.

This afternoon I've been going through this for nearly half an hour and have now accessed ASF via Mozilla Firefox and got straight through.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be happening and how to fix it?

I'm having no difficulty with anything else.

With thanks.

Hi Julia,

I've been having the same problems. Sometimes I can't get on at all and sometimes I can get on with no problems. All with IE.

I wonder if it's to do with the number of people online?

cheers

If anyone else is having similar problems to Julia and Mouse please let me know in this thread and I will do my best to figure out what is causing it and what can be done to rectify it.

Thanks! :)

yep, I have had occasional site access difficulty using IE6
Site unavailable message comes up.

I don't have a problem accessing ASF, but I still have the Pay Pal redirect when I first access ASF and select New Posts. After about 3 attempts it works ok, until the next time I open IE ie a new session. Been happening for several months now. Something to do with Pay Pal still?

Well, I know Julia specified IE, but I use Firefox and I am not having any trouble whatsoever.....

Whilst I am dependent on Microsuck for an OS due to work, I will be darned if I am going to use their second rate browser..... for anyone interested, go to www.mozilla.com....

Cheers

I've been meaning to post about this for a while sorry Joe - I've got exactly the same problem as Julia. Has happened in the past but has been really bad the last week or so.

Page either doesn't load at all (ie blank page which eventually times out) or more usually, loads the header and nothing else. Sometimes stops there and says "done" other times if I leave it a few minutes it eventually loads.I normally have to F5 every page 2 or 3 times before she'll load. Oh, and this is with latest IE 6.

Cheers

No problems for me ... using Firefox too. Give it a try? Takes <2 mins to download (if have fast internet) and install - if it doesn't work or you don't like it is simple to uninstall.

Other alternative is Opera (gets very good reports too), and there are others too.

To help diagnose the issue, more information could be useful. Such as;

1. "actual" version of IE
2. ISP (Internet Service Provider)
3. Isolated to your computer. (Does it happen on another PC in the house, or on your laptop at the coffee shop?)
4. What version of Windows you are running.
5. Installed A/V program? Updated?
6. Anti-Spyware installed? Updated?

From what I've read, posts have been saying "the latest IE 6". IE's latest version is 7. IE 6 has alot of known issues with web sites. I think "WebJet" is one or one of those discount airline pages.

As reece55 suggested in an ealier post, downloading mozilla could resolve the issue. Or updating IE as well.

I have faced similar problems as I'm in IT and the above 6 questions are a help for whoever is going to resolve the problem.

From what I've read, posts have been saying "the latest IE 6". IE's latest version is 7.

I said "latest" as I only rely on the windows update service to provide the latest version of IE and that updated only a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, I don't check the MS website every day to see if there's a new version of IE available and I don't hang out on tech forums so have never heard of any problems with IE 6. I also don't like firefox (waits for the insults).

But for the record:
1. IE 6.0.2900.2180 (.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 if you want to be pedantic)
2. ISP = Iinet
3. No other PC's here to check it on
4. Windows XP SP2
5. AVG Free, latest update
6. No anti spyware running
7. Yes I've turned it off and on :p:
8. No, my cup holder is not broken :D

I've got IE7.

Just a suggestion but maybe Joe could post an email addy for people who can't open this thread so they can say if they are having problems? :)

cheers

Had exactly the same thing Julia, no idea why but fixed the problem by resetting IE.

Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and hit the Reset button.

You get a warning about losing some temp data, cookies etc and have to reset your default page, but works fine now.

If I am ever pedantic, it's subconciously.
We can rule out 2. I'm on iinet. (blah blah tech reason)
We can rule out 5. Same here. (hate paying for it)
1 and 6 are a possible reason. But with just you replying, it's 50/50.

You can d/load spybot (I have too) for free from here: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html and run that through your sys.

Another option (or both) is to go to <Tools> <Windows Update> on the title bar of IE and manually update ALL updates rather than express could also fix the issue.

Please understand I might have the diag. wrong, but do this on a daily basis, so I'm using experience and percentages.

Good Luck - PM me if you have probs understanding what I just wrote.

Good to know it's not just some bad karma coming to get just me!

Yes, had no trouble using Firefox but just like the layoutof IE.
I'm using IE 6 btw.

Seems to perhaps be something to do with Paypal, Joe?

Thanks for trying to sort it out.

Took me three attempts to get on this evening.
