Does anyone know of software into which you can enter events, e.g. birthdays etc, you want to remember and it will come up every day to remind you if something is entered for that day?

Julia, do you have MS Outlook? Its a fantastic system for this. I use it for all my traditional organisational type tasks....and even programmed my families birthdays so i woldn't forget (being a male and all).

Cheers,

Agree, Outlook is very good..

Yes, another outlook fan here Julia. It works very well and it keeps reminding you until you dismiss it. You can set the reminder notice a few minutes, hours or days ahead. Outlook comes with the Office suite of software.

I use yahoo widgets, its a free program and alows you to put lots of cool stuff on your desktop.

I use the day planner, analog clock, notepad and stock ticker, check it out

Keep it simple. Use Yahoo Calendar (http://calendar.yahoo.com) or Google Calendar (http://calendar.google.com). You can enter all the dates you want to remember, and have them send email reminders a certain number of days in advance, and/or on the day itself.

Advantage: All your information is accessible from any computer anywhere in the world. No need to worry about having a hard disk crash (Outlook) or losing your phone.

Thats another reason why I suggested the widgets actually, you can choose from from either yahoo calendar or outlook express as a source

So when you save your appointments/tasks you can access them from your home or notebook automatically

I'm on my 3rd generation of Palm PDAs, and couldn't live without it. Synching to a desktop is easy, which means I always have a backup, and the reminders pop up on both machines, which means I'm very unlikely to miss any.

But people ran reminder systems for centuries before they had electronic devices. I think they were called calendars ;) Bit or work to copy dates from year to year, but not all that much. Now I come to think about it, you could keep a list of recurrent events and just use a symbol or colour code on the calendar to tell you when to look at the list.

RU asking about this now because you've just missed a date? Hope it wasn't too important.

Thank you all for your suggestions - much appreciated.

Ghoti: yes, that's the current method and it works pretty well, and no, I haven't actually forgotten anyone's birthday but live in fear of doing so.

To those of you who suggested "why not use your phone", you will be doubtless astonished to learn that I do not have a mobile phone! Horrors!
How could I survive without a phone with me all the time? Very easily, thanks. How did anyone survive before the damn things were invented?
Why does someone doing the grocery shopping have to have a loud conversation about her previous night's date while she shops?

It suits me very well to not be contactable at times. Anyone who wants to phone me can leave a message on my landline.

Sorry, people. Didn't mean to turn this into a rant against mobile phones.

Thanks again for your suggestions which I will check out.
