Your hero?

I always thought he was a bit sexist and racist. Patriotic to the extreme. A bit of a flag waver without reason.

And that's from a white anglo homophobic military man.

Thats wrong kennas, he sponsored many Vietnamese orphans even had them stay in his own home, never made a fuss about it, no publicity.

Really? Cripes, I better read up a bit on the man. Many appologies if I got him wrong.

Not many know about it and he always kept it private, I remember Neil Mitchel from 3AW talking about it years ago, cant seem to fine anything online about it though.

He could never warm to the Japanese , well he hated them with a passion, after he saw what they did to our boys in WW2, must have been very traumatic.

He's cool isn't he Tech?

Sure is.
I came around an isle at full bore and ran straight into him. He saved himself by grabbing a shelf.
I didn't recognise him as I'm apologising profusely but when "That" voice said hey your not from around here the head spun!

Went through the Aussie thing and looking through the Rockies on the way down to Monument Valley---he made a few comments and we went our ways.
Fortunately he didn't sue me half to death! (Well he could have done it fully!).
Was a nice guy who as a local came across as just that.

My brush with fame!

My hero

Given the date my hero or one of them would be Kieth Payne VC.

This man epitomises courage, a sense of mateship, leadership, and a total disregard for his own wellbeing to assist, and protect those who serves under him.

according to Dr Sheldon Kopp, you should never have a hero. It only diminshes your ability to rise to an occasion. You see the hero and realise you can never be in their league as you hold them in such esteem.

Screw the heros. Be your own

cheers,

I can't see why any celebrity is a 'hero' unless they have distinguished themselves in some other capacity.

The true heroes imo are those people who go into a burning house to save someone they don't even know, risking their own lives. Ditto saving someone from drowning.

And the unacknowledged thousands of parents who bring up children with severe disabilities, receiving little help or support from governments or the community.

I agree. They are the true heroes.

I find inspiration in people like Jean Vanier and Tom White.
