As far as a genuine indigenous Australian I think that Vincent Lingiari would have to be an outstanding example of anyone's hero.

Bear in mind that he stood up to be counted long before the white ambulance chasing lawyers saw big dollars in promoting the aboriginal "cause".

Just my :2twocents

Boggo,

By indigenous I mean that whom is born here. I wasn't being racist to differentiate by colour or ancestral race - just to clarify.:)

Sorry Snake, the word actually triggered my thoughts on Vincent Lingiari so I went on that tangent without thinking in the broader sense.

Cheers

I can't see why any celebrity is a 'hero' unless they have distinguished themselves in some other capacity.

The true heroes imo are those people who go into a burning house to save someone they don't even know, risking their own lives. Ditto saving someone from drowning.

And the unacknowledged thousands of parents who bring up children with severe disabilities, receiving little help or support from governments or the community.

My thoughts exactly Julia, if we start thinking of actors and singers etc as heroes then I think we are losing the plot.

Victor Chan and and the late Fred Hollows are two fine Australian examples from the medical profession that are more like heroes than some couch jumping devil dodging yank that may appeal to masses in the daily turnover of crap magazines.

Good points Julia. But nobody knows them and convention amongst the media and society is to ignore them and grlorify the successful in terms of income and stature etc. I completely agree with you.
