Why do people love jewellery?

I think Jewellery (even though i wear none myself) is one of those things that are nearly part of the Human genetic make up, I mean our species have been wearing the stuff for thousands of years as a disply of status/wealth/beliefs etc ....... So i figure wearing Jewellery for many is pretty much done instinctively.

That is spot on :)

I must admit, there are some watches with price tags that rival that of a reasonbly priced car which I'd gladly endulge myself of (if I didn't need my reasonbly priced car!)...but things like this are symbolic to me of what I've achieved...I really couldn't give two hoots whether anyone else realises its real or from Thailand. In fact I find that displays of real wealth can be bothersom if you intend on having real and normal friends.

I know wealthy people who still buy the ones from Thailand and China! Haha. They come back with a new Tag or Breitling and a cheap Armani dress-shirt after every business trip...they love it :)

Yeah but I can spot a fake a mile away... Especially when the glass pops out... Most of the fakes use Citizen movements... So there is quality to it because the movements are made in Japan... You can tell its a citizen movement when the hour hand is most likely the glow in the dark mercedes symbol looking one... The watch case lets it down though because you can't even wash your hands :) When I go to Thailand I am not wearing any of my jewelry there I'm gonna buy some TAG heuer watches ;)

Being in the industry i thought i would comment.

The simple answer is vanity

Although i must admit Australia is very behind in fashion here (for jewellery) as most shops just want basic stuff as it sells more (compared to europe where fancy is everywhere).

Oh yeah... My cousin in Brazil imports clothes, shoes and belts with Cubic Zirconias set in them from China... I have never seen it here... IMO Fashion wise Australia is about 6 - 12months behind the world... not joking

One of my literacy students is a bikie with a very large nose ring.
This is jewellery to him and apparently symbolises his standing in the gang.
To me it looks horrible, but what would I know!

The only jewellery I have ever really liked was a plain gold wedding ring.
Just don't go for all the bling.

what standing would that be... Brat maybe

Nose rings are so disgusting especially on girls... it looks like they need to wipe their nose :)

true, any person that thinks material possesions such as jewellery, cars etc.. defines you as wealthy you better re-read your bank balance and cashflow vs expenses.

People certainly attach themselves too much to these things... I know I get haggled a bit by friends when I wear some of my present jewellery... A watch, A ring and a bracelet... Mr T is what I get called... lol... I really only wear it as a possible conversation starter for girls...

her - "Ohhh that's a nice blah blah are those real"
Me - "yeah... Those shoes are nice! did you buy them new?" lol. A punch on the arm and I'm in :D

Nice Clothes are much more important than jewelery in a social setting...

Speaking of "accessories", is anybody old enough to remember this era? LOL

Worse, did anyone actually wear one of these? :banghead::banghead:

My parents have a store in Melbourne I help out there.... No I wasn't at the fare... Dad wanted me to go with him but I had other plans... He said it wasn't anything special... kinda like when you go to the motorshow to see last year's model cars... :)

Do you have a store in Sydney? It's not very busy this time of year how are you holding up?

Mostly Design and latest fashion... Italian designers are like the best in the world... It's a strong selling point for some... But yes it is just gold in the end
