I don't know and I don't think anyone else does either. It does seem that this has been an ongoing question for several decades now. Now that we are staring down the the barrel of constitutional change in this regard, it would seem to be prudent to define aboriginality, even as the the government attempts semantical acrobatics on this point.
Yet, the Parliament (via the crossbench) refuses to address it.

The vexing but vital issue of genuine Indigenous identity will fester during the Voice referendum period and for a long time after unless – and until – Parliament settles the question of what defines…www.spectator.com.au
So, what does it mean? What is an Aboriginal?
Regards,
A 100% British Aboriginal.

It's not on Birth Certificates.

And then when it hits 1% whiter than white will still be 100% for the hand-outs.It used to be 60%. I only know that number from living in Darwin in the late 90s and knowing people who got benefits because they were above 60%.
It seems the bar has been lowered.

OMG! You're the first person I've seen/heard this term for decades (apart from ourselves, we use it all three timewoobla
And its a NO vote from me also. Plenty of representation in the bum warming House alreadyThe tricky thing about family tree percentages is that it can display in phenotype (and genotype for that matter) very differently. Lidia may be lowish percentage-wise, but she'd never be mistaken as fully white. There are people with that sort of percentage, however, that look like Vikings etc. Should this Voice get over the line (apparently has decent chance, though I'll be voting against it like any sensible person), I expect there's an assumption by the public that its reps will at least look a bit Aboriginal, at least for a while anyway,
Australian is a natiionalityMore to the above what makes an Australian… a piece of paper.
As for the obsession re percentages if you have the genes as per my relative’s no matter the amount you get the health issues as well as they do.
The relative’s quality for the free handouts which they found to be of no benefit or advantage

Aboriginal is genetic, @IFocus. Interesting you immediately reach for the racist card, in that it's not surprising.
My concern is non Aboriginals impinging on Aboriginal decisions, as you Marxists are wont to do, so defining what it is, is important.
Might be a good idea to not get your knickers in a wad as your first option... Bro.
I stand with Jacinta, Dillon, Mundine, et al, so stick your putrid narrative up yer @55, Komrade. The implications are clear nothing to do with me.
If that was the case you would support the voice
Not the case just amazed at the sheer ignorance of the opinions expressed here.
Carry on
Interesting that Aboriginal genes allowed them to survive for 60,000 years, but now it's all the white man's fault that they are sick ?More to the above what makes an Australian… a piece of paper.

No surprises they are sponsored by and represent white conservative politics same as you (assuming minus sponsorship ?)I stand with Jacinta, Dillon, Mundine, et al, so stick your putrid narrative up yer @55, Komrade.
It's the woobla that did it.Interesting that Aboriginal genes allowed them to survive for 60,000 years, but now it's all the white man's fault that they are sick ?
Ah right, so you consider them Uncle Toms do you?No surprises they are sponsored by and represent white conservative politics same as you (assuming minus sponsorship ?)

I haven't posted in this thread, but I think making it political is drawing a long bow, I would expect people on both sides of politics will vote both ways.If you ever followed Aboriginal history from white settlement you would know that Aboriginals were never subservient that goes for your conservative spouting hero’s the massacres Australia wide testament to their resistance.
To act against the aspirations of 80% (polling) of your own people is typical of conservative values totally in line with the values of the current Liberal Party
