Totally agree. Has to be sustainable - whatever that looks like. Might have to give people a use-by date... or stop fixing all the genetic problems. medicine is keeping my lot alive longer than they would otherwise stay alive.

Might have been valid 50 years ago, but you can't continue to reduce the amount of arable land and simultaneously increase the population that depends on that arable land. The most fertile land in the country is on the east coast, and that is rapidly disappearing. Transfer the population to the regions and you start running out of water.

My comment was about the reaction of the incumbent community to the new arrivals. There are parallels now. As for population growth, it's a global issue & Oz can't continue ad-infinitum. Rapid growth only leads to a decline if it is done with out all the steps being covered - infrastructure being the main issue, & being able to "recoup" the cost to society within a reasonable time. Adding more long-term/permanent welfare recipients is a recipe for disaster.
