Of course I forgot the heinous Iraq Iran war when Saddam and his Sunni army were encouraged and supported in their attack on the Shia Iran. Its all there in the history books and in some of our unreliable memories.
There was a saying that I can't remember how it exactly went. Something like 1 Persian head is equal to 5 infidels. Iranians were not liked in the middle east.
I would think that it goes along the Shia Sunni divide...helped save Assad in Syria (Assad alawite Shia)
And supporting Houthi( shia) rebels in Yemen....Saudi of course is overwhelmingly sunni.Interestingly there are small gulf states ruled by the ten percent Sunni minority.
Iran has the motivation, whether the ability or not,to upset a lot of Sunni encumbents.Remember when the mantra was democracy -does not apply to the middle east.
Starting a war with Iran either by design or accidentally is a terrifying lunacy. Look back at the Iraq war for lessons on this direction. Take It From an Iraq War Supporter—War With Iran Would Be a Disaster
It would mean repeating a mistake, only on a much bigger scale: without allies, without justification, and without any plan at all. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...a-failurewar-with-iran-would-be-worse/589534/
