I think twitter has fact checking via "community" which in my opinion is better than some ministry of truth out of the government.

Governments have and will continue to push misinformation. I don't trust them anymore then I trust some random on the internet.

Western Governments are not going to let China and Russia push misinformation on Twitter with no consequences.
Twitter need to control it.

I haven't seen a lot on there (I know it's there). If it is pushed then it will get fact checked by others. This is musks point. People need to start questioning what they read by themselves. In the past it was through debate, not the echo chambers that was pre-Elon Twitter.

All these things should be discussed out in the open.

It all falls under the umbrella of learned responses, people years ago believed anything they read in the papers, because papers generally conformed to a code of ethics also there were government bodies that regulated them and could actually remove their license to publish or broadcast.
Now in the self regulation, privatisation, corporatisation era, that ethos and regulation has disappeared and the media dissolved into a conga line of trashy tabloids, which really are more like the old magazines, where stories are dreamed up or sensationalised to grab attention and circulation.
Unfortunately a lot of the older generation are still caught up in the time warp, where they think that if it is printed in a 'reputable' media it has to be fact and they never question the veracity of the article or even follow up to check if indeed it was factual. They make their mind up on the initial article and nothing will change their stance.

Musk actually taking this stance is a breath of fresh air, at last someone who can't be bought out and corrupted giving people an open platform.
We on ASF have been lucky to have Joe as the owner, he has allowed everyone to have their say, as long as it remains civil and sensible and I've seen many members change or temper their hard stances on issues by debating it on the forum.
One topic that comes to mind is renewables and power generation, the forum has been a wealth of knowledge and some are now much more abreast of the 'real' issues, as opposed to the sensationalising that the media present.
As usual just my two cents worth, but I just find the media a total disappointment, now it is just a group of people abusing their position to pedal their opinions and is probably the reason they spend so much time in courts. :mad:

Joe is ahead of the times.
We are largely unfiltered with the ability to block someone if needed. People get fact checked routinely. Yes some stuff gets through. But it's a mix either side that keeps each other in check and closer to the centre.
It's basically what twitter is now.

Musk himself tweeted that, if done right, X ‘‘would become half the global financial system’’.
That does indicate the scale of his ambition, or perhaps of his delusion.

Twitter floats on a sea of debt, thanks to the $US13 billion of borrowings Musk took on to acquire it.
it is also haemorrhaging users and has lost half its advertising spend. it has become unstable and has other problems with fake content I have mentioned previously.

Does anyone here think he can pull it off?
 
Rumours of TwXtter's death are greatly exaggerated. Vis a vis, stop reading BS from the competition.
