Prospector I`m not all that religious,but for example the ten commandments I think are good rules to follow.
They make sense and are the roots of our moral codes and also legal rules,medical decisions and so forth.
As for Gods existence it gives me comfort to think that taking responsability for my actions leaves no one else to blame.Does he exists ,I have asked many times but I cant tell you that I`ve come up with a answer,as for praying dont do much of that either,I think if God exists he`ll know that I`m here.

Some say religion is like crutches, and some people on crutches, use them if attacked.

Luckily only my spin and so fresh I didn’t have time to check if logical.

As to miners, now we have almost 100% certainty that they’ll come out.

Obviously no-one can prove one way or the other whether who survived and who didn't was totally random. But for those who choose to believe there is no God then it is very easy to come to that conclusion and I have no problem with that as I said before what someone chooses to believe is personal and up to individual choices.

But if you take the scenario where there is a God then it is quite feasible that His original plan could have been that the 2 miners trapped in the cage would have perished as well before they were found but all the prayers asking for the miners safe rescue may have persuaded God to have mercy on the 2 miners and allow them to firstly survive and then hopefully rescued in order to give them a 2nd chance in life, another chance to repent, continue on with whatever other purposes/tasks or whatever they may have had in their lives etc etc....who knows....and hence in this scenario who survives and who doesn't is not random at all.

Obviously no-one can prove any of this 100% one way or the other and so it boils down to 'faith' and what you believe in.

Well having been underground at 1800m it's a feeling I cannot describe to you it's one of those things you need to personally do and seeing those safety capsules gave me really bad thoughts I tell you you could almost hear you own heart beating and I think the silence will get to me!

You are all a bunch of greedy pigs who are more interested in the latest stockmarket report than a couple of workers trapped down a gold mine.

There was only one post on this thread that even mentioned that it was a listed company mining gold. The rest of the posts were complaining about the way it was being covered and talking about religion. The only reasons I can think of for you to say we are all greedy pigs is-
a) you are a reporter and were offended by us complaing about your colleagues.
b) you are dirt poor and think that all people interested in money and finance must be dishonest and greedy
c) you were smoking crack when you wrote this post

So which is it?

Maybe I'm a completely heartless bastard but why the **** do I want to see Bill Shorten down in Tasmania. Everytime I turn on the TV he is either talking to the cameras about drilling procedures, cuddling relatives in front of the cameras or talking with mine officials in front of the cameras. Great PR leading into his political career.

And I take exception to his comments like "the important thing is that we get our two union members out safely". :swear:

They are two human beings first and foremost. Who gives a **** whether they are union members or not. Union scum. I can't stand them. :swear:

You know who I feel sorry for, the employee skipper of the trawler who died last week when the boat he was commanding sank off Brisbane. Or what about the courier who died in a head on car crash involving a drunk driver the week before last. Or what about the taxi driver in WA that was robbed and left for dead. The mining industry does not have a patent on "dangerous occupations". Nor do the Unions!!!!

Don't get me wrong it is a fantastic achievement for human sipirt and endurance and I pray that the family are united. But the media and union officials can piss off.

Now, some time, you may like to address what I know you understand to be the serious question of whether you genuinely believe that those who believe in God do expect "favourable treatment" when it comes to a disaster.

Yes, indeed visual. It's usually just the "devout believers" who do the judging.e.g. the extraordinary story about the catholic supermarket checkout girl who refused to sell the condoms.

People who are non-believers or agnostics don't seem to have the same obsession about inflicting their beliefs on others.

On another note it was reported on the business news on ABC miday to-day that the parents of one of the miners are creditors that are owned money! not sure what is the connection it was raised as a local issue which has many people there very angry

I haven't avoided the question at all as I gave you a reply. If you don't accept it, that is totally ok by me.

But your post above indicates to me that you are under some sort of misapprehension that I am under some obligation to disclose to you personal information/views and I undeniably am not

So if you are genuinely interested in discussing this topic with others and not just me, since your original question was directed at me, and you are not just simply trying to hijack this thread from the original intention according to post #1 then maybe start a new thread addressing your hypothetical scenario to all in the forum.

Non believers bating those who believe who then scream loudly that they're being preached at when they receive a reply.

God is not a huge slot machine that you put prayers into and get more payouts than those who don't play.It's about a personal relationship with the creator.

The story of the check out chick reminds me of a friend of mine from 40 years ago.
Together with his fiancee he went to his doctor for a script for the pill.The doctors response?"I can't write one myself as I am catholic,but I will get my partner to write one".
He then went in,got his partner to write the script,then came out and handed it to my friend.Thank God I am an atheist.
