Transferring shares... help!

Hey girls and guys, sirs and madames,
Quick question, i previously purchased shares via a financial advisor some years ago now. I recieved a company notification of my purchase and a SRN number. I also recently started a commsec account and would like to transfer these shares to my new account. How do i go about doing this?

Call Comsec. They will probably ask you to send a copy of your Chess statement showing your SRN. You may be able to transfer shares online IF your name on the statement and in Comsec is an exact match including salutation. Otherwise the automated transfer system may reject it. The whole transfer process takes about 1 week.

If the name and address match, you can send them a transfer form, which you'll find in the forms section of their broking website. (Sorry, I no longer trade with Comsec, so I can't send you the URL)
Otherwise, you can do it via off-market transfer. That could cost around $50 - leaving the question whether it's worth it.
The third option is: Open a broking account under the exact name as it appears on the Issuer-sponsored SRN, and ask the (new) broker to transfer the holding into the new a/c.

You may need to do the sums what's the easiest solution.
