Trading the Nikkei

I got access to Nekkei on JPX via AMP Future running on Multichart 10 today.

I am not sure if this is the right platform when it comes to managing historical information of expired contracts because it's such a pain in the ass! Unlike Ninjatrader, with MultiCharts I have to add ALL contracts to a 'custom contract' to be able to see historical information. It also doesn't stream real-time data to this 'custom contract' :banghead:

Does anyone know which platform offered by AMP Futures handles continuous contracts like Ninjatrader before I spend the next 5 hours testing each platform individually... ?

Cheers

Update: I have settled for Sierra Charts after a few hours testing platforms it appears to handle continuous contracts as seamlessly as NinjaTrader, fingers crossed.

Since I've been away from the markets for a while now, I've had the time to look for a reliable data provider that does indeed provide good bid/ask data for Asian markets. I've now got my AMP Clearing account setup and I've had an opportunity to watch some of the new markets that they cover.

So the winner is...The Nikkei 225 contract from SGX. This contract has an Initial Margin of $2000 and a maintenance Margin of $1000. Very reasonable.

It trades from 7:45 AM my time until 14:15. That's one hour for the market to establish its initial balance area and that gives me time to plan for Europe as well.

It has a decent daily range of between 100 and 150 points or so...plenty of opportunity.

The multiplier is 500 Yen or roughly $5.25 per contract.

Commission from AMP Clearing is also "reasonable" at around $5 per RT.

Its plenty thick with 100's in the depth with tons of bergs and the daily average volume is over 70,000.

So for the next month or so we'll do some screen time on this market while structuring it with VP.

Cheers,
CanOz

Great reserach CanOz. May I ask the symbol name of this contract you found?
I am looking at similar criteria and was thinking about finding liquid contracts on SGX and/or SFE during Australian day-time and evening trading hours. I like FDAX in the evenings, but I have not found any interesting contracts in Asia-Pacific.

I am using the Ninjatrader platform, so would need to get a good datafeed as well.

Are you referring to the NK (in Yen) and NU (in USD) Future contracts?

I like FDAX in the evenings, but I have not found any interesting contracts in Asia-Pacific.
Otherwise, I like NQ in the US RTH.

Anyone else out there trading the Nikkei?

I started on the sim last week, wondering if anyone else is?
