To Broadband or not, that is the question?

Hmmmmm........ Sounds like a recommendation for Telstra's next Generation Wireless/Satelite Broadband Network running at 1 gigabit plus. I wonder if Kevin & Wayne will restrict the sale of spectrum until they've lost government or recovered the cost of rolling out a redundant technology national broadband fiasco? I wonder if I should be building a small tls portfolio at sub $3.00?
check out NEWSAT - first OZ owned Satelite in 2012.. cheap shares now - I have 60,000, lol - highly speculative though :)

fibre optic broadband & satelite based for the remote areas are the go. As a IT sucker I have dabbled in home automation (about 45% in the US versus about 8% in OZ) envisage live streaming video phone to every household (need bandwidth) incl. checking you IP cameras to see what your cleaner does @ home ;)
SAT/Based internet seems to be a better solution for rural OZ

Surely a SAT system would be hugely expensive? Do they have some sort of business plan on what it will cost the consumer?

My plan's speed is 256/512kbp/s but the highest speed i can get is like 46kbp/s...anyone know why this is so?

N.T

That reads like something that is not a standard ADSL plan. If it is one of the standard Telstra wholesale/retail ADSL plans of 512/128 kbit then you're getting close to the limit. I think back a few years ago a few telco networking gurus worked out for the Telstra network such a plan would hit 55 KB/s using PPPoA. Have you used your ISP's tech support?

line speed hugely depends on quality of the copper & discance to the exchange, maybe it's the distance to the exchange. You should be able to do a line test with your ISP.

check this out: http://www.westnet.com.au/internet/satellite/,http://www.harboursat.com.au/, OPTUS & i am sure others. As low as $9.95/month

OPTUS Website QUOTE:"Through the Australian Broadband Guarantee program, if your application is successful, the Australian Government will pay $2,750 towards the cost of the satellite equipment and installation for eligible applicants. If that's you, with nothing to pay for standard installation you can have a fast internet connection." (end of quote)
