Ed Sheeran's just set a record for the highest concert attendance in Australia in Melbourne at ~107k and that comes after a crowd of over 100k the previous night.

Now consider that this is after a pretty long list of concerts in recent times from all sorts of artists from pop to hard rock, current artists through to 1980's and everything in between.

Musically well I'm not even slightly into Ed Sheeran (though he seems like a decent human, just not my style musically) but pretty clearly a lot of people are and consumers are still spending on having fun.

If you were a promoter, with an international act, would you schedule Aust in late summer rather than nthn hemisphere?

Stadiums and merch...
Harry Stiles played to 70k in Sydney, some other outfit pulled 20k and a K-Pop sensation pulled the same, all at Olympic park last night.
 

Obviously the economy isn't too tight yet.

We've let our grubbermemts rob us of industry over the years.

There's plenty of individual industry opportunities out there in Aus right now, just crying out for funding. Are they economical? Dunno, but we need to get past that. Make a loss for a while if needed, to squash the competition, if possible.

Need some massive industrial city built out the back of nowhere like corner country NSW Tibooburra or somewhere like that on train lines.
A hub of all hubs...

Of course and Australia gets a lot of acts it otherwise wouldn't due to that. If it wasn't for that, there'd be not much incentive to travel a huge distance to play a handful of shows.

Point though is consumers are clearly out and spending. When one artist can get over 200k people to see them in one city alone, at a time when rather a lot of others have also just toured or are about to, then consumers seem to have money.

This stuff isn't cheap after all. For a couple well even if they live near the venue or can use public transport, they're still spending $ hundreds to attend most concerts these days. For those needing a babysitter, or those in regional areas traveling long distances and needing accommodation, the costs mount up real quick.

I'm not suggesting there's anything wrong with it, just seeing it as an economic indicator.

As for Ed though, well I'll leave others to enjoy the show. Not my style.....

YES !! half the northern hemisphere will be a basket-case

the Middle-East would still have an economy but unlikely to welcome most Western shows

some parts of South East Asia would still be viable depending on the shows

I heard someone on tv today whining that they may have to pull their kids out of private school.

This could go in other threads but, at street level, these home owners involved are going to feel it. Poor blighters. The commercial construction projects on hold isn't good either.

Only a personal observation: home electrical goods and automotive parts prices had a large drop this new month. Morning traffic has been down. Small craft breweries have been pushing out discounts and specials, which is unusual for most. Holiday bookings are still high, concerts and entertainment sales are good, car sales are up.

I think that the RBA interest rate hikes are well and truly achieving their goal, but only on some sections of the economy.

"It was the best of times, the worst of times"

Neighbours went on a road trip, two weeks coastal crawl Syd to Melb, then back via Hume.
"Don't need to book, school holidays are over".... famous last words. Accommodation tight to nonexistant everywhere, and the worst of the places were inland towns like Yass.
 

Is one of the issues they cannot get sufficient staff? I say that as I have noticed when down the coast there seems to be in cafe's and the like lots of "Staff Wanted" signs. Maybe I've only taken heed of them as they were not all that common in the past.
 
staff issues i hear about ( across several sectors ) are not enough staff and/or not enough qualified staff , and if we move on to 'capable staff ' the rabbit hole gets deeper ( underlying health issues or just lack of practical skills , despite what the paperwork says )

i think the problem has been creeping up on some industries .. say heavy machinery operators and heavy transport drivers as an example i know one bod well qualified in both but has family health issues so is now middle management at a distribution hub
 
There is a critical shortage in my game, but because of our small numbers it never gets mentioned.

It's the perfect blokes trade, fire, steel and shiny tools... Working outside and most of your clients are attractive young women throwing cash at you to fix their broken horse.

But it's hard Yakka, so no takers from the weakest, most pathetic generation ever.

I'm finding many things that weren't really required to be booked, now are.
EG; Pink slip car inspections. Used to be a ring around of 2 or 3 to get an available hit (regional area)
Now, book in advance.
Accommodation? Book months in advance rather than a couple of weeks as was previously the case in general.

A smash repairs shop has a a sign up, "now taking bookings for May", business must be smashingly good...?
 

I hope the money is good enough to compensate for being continually shat on.
