I don't know whether to be outraged or philosophical about this ...

A few years ago they got me for the serious crime of doing 76 in a 70 zone.. scene of crime, just got of the freeway (100)k 20 seconds later, downhill gradually slowing down I got nabbed by a brilliantly strategically placed camera at the bottom of a dip in the road.

Fine $130 for that serious crime.
I was comforted somewhat since a Senior Sargeant got me in that case. no doubt their top man for such a demanding task?

Since then of course I have been a good boy, always watching the speedometer until making sure I don't exceed .....

Today another $138 fine ... scene of crime some street I don't even remember, apparently I was doing ... wait for it .... 56 in a 50 zone ?

Now I don't truly remember seeing any 50k sign .. needless to say a Senior Sergeant again, these guys probably get promoted based on their zeal and revenue they generate from criminals like me.

Of course this is NOT REVENUE raising but to teach me a lesson on driving at excessive and dangerous speeds (56k ?)

Serves me right

Rob

Rob

Rob, Do check on the street and if you feel you where not in the area on the day in question it may be worth paying the money (was about $10 last I heard) to see the photo. If this infringement was generated by one of those fixed speed cameras, there is little human review in the process. The fine you have received may be the result of the "best guess" match by a computer.

All the best.

SPEED CAMERAS. NO CHANCE OF AVOIDING A FINE IF YOU SPEED ON M5 & M7 SPEED

> CAMERAS. INFORMATION

> The M5 and the M7 are now equipped with Point to Point speed

>> devices.

>> Once you enter the M7 for instance you pass the etag and it beeps.

>> At the same time a camera takes a photo of your car and records the

>> exact time. For those who have exited the M7 they would be aware that

>> upon exit the etag system beeps again as you leave.

>>

>> At the same time another camera at that point takes a photo of the

>> car and the time. Then the computer calculates the time it has taken you

>> to travel between the two points and calculates your speed. If you have

>> completed the clocked journey too fast you are given a speeding ticket.

>>

>> At the present time the speed limit is 100K.P.H. and you have a

>> tolerance of 102 and no more. One fraction over that speed and you are

>> issued with a fine automatically.

>>

>> Also remember that school zone camera's are not speed tolerant.

>>

>> Anything over, even 41, is a fine. This means people will be doing

>> 38 to avoid any differences in their speedo readings.

>>

>> Remember, this is going to be a very costly experience for some

>> drivers. It is also going to mean vehicles will be travelling at 95 in

>> order to ensure that no ticket is issued.

>>

>> What a shock some drivers are going to have when they have used this

>> roadway for a week and get a weeks tickets BOTH WAYS.

>>

>> Of course your license will also be recalled for three months and you

>> know the rest.

>>

>> Take the advice and if you ignore it remember this email when you

>> pay all those fines.

>>

>> Also, remember that now with the new legislation, fighting a speed

>> camera fines is almost impossible.

>>

>> You must prove the device is faulty and if you are not a technician

>> working on them, you have no chance of beating the fine.

>>

>> The Pacific Highway has a set and these are recognised as large

>> steel frames over the lanes with a speed camera and some distance up the

>> road is another large metal frame with a speed camera.

>>

>> These new point to point systems are being put onto any expressway

>> or highway where vehicles are not able to exit between those points.

Very informative post BOXON .. thank you for that (you're not one of the senior sergeants who caught me ?:))

My point is was the speed I was doing really a danger to life and society OR is this just a revenue grab .. pure and simple.
Had I been doing 70.. 80 etc in a 50 zone NOW that would be speeding and no Q's asked

At least I was not branded a criminal ONLY a Civil Disobedient (the address on the envelope supplied)

There is speed and there is speed ......

So I'll cough up like the 99.99% who do and start looking for dome good PIG jokes for the next party

And the purpose of the post appart from publicly humiliating myself --- the market is a little uncertain today so I am sitting on the sidelines and a little bored :(

Rob

That makes me completely shudder. I despise camera speeding fines. I call it coffee and biscuit tax for the cops I dont agree with the speed limits anyway! Atleast in Western Australia, they dont clock you as you get on and off a freeway (which are far too slow in my opinion anyway). You guys are living in some kind of brave new world nightmare. All in the name of safety. What a con. Legitamized theft!

I drove around victoria on a holiday and was completely bewildered by the cameras every where. I was in the middle of the bloody country no one around and driving at 100 km. Bloody hell what a joke.

Unfortunately most of Victoria is the equivalent of Nazi Germany when it comes to traffic infringements... in particular speeding.

Australia seems to be the only country in the world that would bend over and take all this. Minor speeding fines on average I have seen around the world are usually no more than $40 AUD.

When a government tries to install speed cameras, the public usually makes a scene, but not the Aussies, they just accept it much like the way they pay bank fees, brokerage fees and bad public transport.

Agree Rob, but they have to draw the line somewhere eh? Although 6k's over should not warrent a fine of $130 though. Take away some points instead???

we are the most regulated country in the world...

the amount of yellow line, white lines, double lines, dashed lines, sign posts... its a whole bloody industry out there :banghead::banghead::banghead:

dunno, i suspect we actually like this, because no one to really takes this issue up...

personally, i hate it...

I agree.

Brokerage is too expensive in AUS.
Public transportation is a joke.
Services and anything you buy keep going up, in some cases they get worse.

Do wages go up in line with costs etc? NO.

Petrol... now that is a classic.

Fight speeding fines because in most cases drivers are not informed.

Thats the one thing I admire about the people of the US. They love to have there say. Love to protest and let the powers know what the people want. regardless of the out come, the citizens band together for what they want. Something rarely seen in Australia. I think because we have the "she'll be right" and "what you gonna do?" attitudes. LOL

In AUS you have to be QUALIFIED to go to the toilet.

Leave Victoria.. that is what I did when they started getting stupid about speeding, and the Government HAD to rely on such 'initiatives' such as gambling and speed cameras to make the budget work.

Drive around quite happily 10% over the speed limit up here, as does everybody else and there is no big hubaloo over it. And you know what, it's not a more dangerous place!

Hei paragon,
when chimneys start blowing smoke smelling of human flesh,I`ll start to worry,...

There's an advertising campaign going on at the moment, perhaps you've missed it? If there is no sign you are supposed to assume it's 50.

Thats been law for years. Then again, they introduce new ones every now and then and people only really get it straight from the source when they first get their license and go through the RTA booklets.. Probably why no one over 40 can signal on a roundabout properly. $130 for 6km over is still bull****. I used to drive on cruise a fair bit and if a $k BMW computer whose whole purpose for existence is to travel at the same speed can be out by 5-10km for a minute or so while it corrects itself after a crest then i'll be ****ed if I can't too.

Rob,
seeing that you are a little bored,do what I did ring them up and offer to give the money to charity. No, didn`t work for me either, but years later it still makes me laugh,I was incensed becasue like you I didn`t feel that I did much wrong, especially when you consider that they got me on the way down and coming back, they change sides of the road, funny thing is I didn`t see them either time.Oh well.

LOL I've got a thing about signalling at roundabouts, because nobody knows WTF is going on...standing joke in my household.

Observation: What makes sense on large roundabouts with regards to signalling, makes no sense at all on small local roundabouts.

I disagree on the age thing. I observe hardly anyone does it correctly, including Mr Plod. But I notice a lot of people here in Geraldton signalling the entry to the roundabout which is wrong. The first thing to wear out here are peoples indicator stalks, lol it's comical and leaves you with absolutely no idea where the driver is actually going.
