The original reason I joined ASF

The first forum I joined was stockcentral at the dawn of retail trading. That was an eyeopener for a newbie. There was a lot of info to absorb. I was just getting the hang of it when it imploded.

I joined ASF because at that time there were some very experienced traders sharing their opinions about trading. Unfortunately most of them have left. It's disappointing, but understandable. It takes effort to post something informative, while it takes no effort to post a glib comment. ASF has too many of the later. This perceived lack of moderation thins the number of valuable contributors and intimidates possible contributors. The mods have a tough job and in the end the forum is what we make it.

I think this forum should have a classic section where all the great trading/investing threads are placed. Many of these threads are lost in time while only a few are pinned.

Yes, I remember it well. Even before that was HotCopper when it first started, and before it was sold a few times and became ...... well, today's HotCopper.

Can't remember why I joined, but when I joined I knew nothing about trading. ASF isn't necessarily about looking for answers, but it's about looking for questions. When I was a beginner I didn't even know what questions to ask, let alone what answers to find. Read widely with an open mind and cynicism at the same time, and you can get a lot of of this place.

These days, ASF is a bit like the market (or a hot but grumpy girlfriend). There are good days and there are bad days. There are good threads and discussions, then there are bad ones where little love and respect were shown. But the good days keep you coming back.
