Re: The next GG is a women

kennas - never heard of the pineapple coup before ? -
is that where the big states get the rough end ? ;)

Re: The next GG is a women

isn't the GG position a figurehead position - no real authority? like the female figureheads they used to put on the bow of sailing ships?

Maybe just the figurehead but as the GG she actually represents Australia's Head of State.

Her appointment has been argued to be so right for a number of reasons - she has the regal experience as the current Governor of Qld, she has extensive years of public service in legal areas, has not had a blemish against her name, is female, but most importantly for Rudd, is a Queenslander:D Hopefully she is not religious either!

Hopefully she will be the last Governor General; nothing against her personally at all, but I think it is about time that a child growing up in Australia can at least dream about leading Australia in its own right!

yep -
after the revolution, she'll go home one Friday as the last GG, and come back Monday morning as the first president ;)

PS :topic but I think I heard them discussing on ABC that they are gonna spend a fortune amending countless laws in NSW - delete "he" , replace with ""he or she" . I think it was NSW govt planning this.
Thought to myself - more useless paper generated  - why not simply add one line in the preface.. "in this document, "he" implies either "he or she as applicable". :2twocents

PS Shouldn't she be called a Governor Generaless?
or the "Shiela General" maybe

Um, Hindsight, to think of your suggestion requires a degree of common sense, so no doubt they will go full bore in making all the changes to legislation. Besides, lawyers need something to do!

We have had a female Governor in SA for years, nothing needed to be changed. Goold ole Marjory Jackson!

...
then again - there might be one of each m8 ;)

PS then again the immaculate conception presumably required at least one male (?)

Re: The next GG is a women

I heard the soon to be appointed governor general say something about a great day for all women of Australia.

What this day says to Australian women and to Australian girls is that they can do anything, you can be anything, and it makes my heart sing to see women in so many diverse roles across our country," she said

I never thought they could not do the bold type before her appointment.
Are Australian women downtrodden.I don`t think so.There are just as many nasty females out there as nasty males. All minds work similar regardless of gender.
I offer females every courtesy and fair opportunity but from what i`ve seen of life, blonde hair, blue eyes and a heart shaped tush opens any door.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quentin_Bryce

Quentin Alice Louise Bryce, AC (born 23 December 1942) is the current Governor of Queensland, Australia and Governor-General-designate of Australia.[1]

Born in Longreach, she grew up in Ilfracombe, and studied at Moreton Bay College, Brisbane, and later at the University of Queensland, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1962 and Bachelor of Laws in 1965.[2][3] In 1965, she was one of the first Queensland women to be admitted to the bar of that state.[4]
so which bar are they talking about ? - the Regatta?

LOL :)

G-G choice no pineapple coup - Rudd

By Samantha Maiden

KEVIN Rudd has dismissed suggestions of a "pineapple coup" in his appointment of Queensland-born Quentin Bryce as governor-general, or that her gender was the guiding force in her selection.

Quentin Alice Louise Bryce was born in Longreach Queensland in 1942 before growing up in Ilfracombe and studying Law at the University of Queensland.

Mr Rudd and Treasurer Wayne Swan are also Queenslanders. But Mr Rudd today played down the sunshine state connection.
Yep, just part of the Pineapple Coup, and to keep the chicks happy for the next election!! he he

a) obviously some truth in the "keeping the chicks happy" bit - but heck - that makes sense doesn't it? - I mean, if the missus is happy, I'm happy ;)
b) with the choice of Alice or Louise, I wonder why she chooses to be called Quentin
c) that's a Lousie name compared to Louise ;)
d) had breakfast in a Truckstop in Longreach once - no one asks you to pass the salt and pepper up there - by reaching over, they can cover the table easy
e) pineapple coup? - could be worse mate, when Joh was running for PM we almost had a Queensland Nut coup.
