The Media

I don't know why it's the ABC being sued.

They always broadcast the National Press Club live and therefore have no control over the content.

Lerhmann should be suing the people who made the comments not the ABC.
The thing is, the case was still active, the ABC only presented one side of the issue and if they presented it in such a way that inferred Lehrmann was guilty of rape it is very poor form.
They are saying the presentation was in the publics interest, but if that were so, the public had a right to hear both sides.

Like I said, it really is the media right to push a narrative that is on trail IMO.
From a spectators view and reading what was said by a lot of ASF members Lehrmann was assumed guilty by the information the media was presenting to them, so it will be a very interesting case.
IMO the media has been pushing the boundaries for a long time with regard journalistic license and trail by media, it is getting back to the old days of lynch mobs and the very reason laws were brought in to stop it.
When Trump incites a riot and hate speech, it is unacceptable, when the media carries out vendetta against someone it's fine, as long as the mob are onside.
The left has a very strong belief in their own self righteousness, which eventually leads to mob rule IMO.:2twocents
Just my thoughts.

its simple really.
Sue the one with the largest pockets.
The ABC has a larger pot of money to waste than Higgins, despite her 3mill govt bribe.
Mick

Those with deep pockets can afford to hire expensive lawyers with a greater chance of success.

If that were true, they wouldn't have flipped their defense so many times.
The ABC is lucky the taxpayers have deep pockets and have no say in who can steal money out of them. ?

We're living in the post-truth era.

It may seem harsh but pretty much everything needs to be questioned today and not taken for granted. Such is the extent of narrative manipulation.

Rarely is it outright lies. Normally it's just presenting one side of the story and giving little or no attention to the other, creating the impression that the media's preferred version is either the only option or at least the one most people support.

We're living in a clown world where most shouldn't be taken seriously. As a case in point, a current news item:

An anti-oil industry activist charged for sparking chaos after dangling over a busy city road earned thousands acting in a major petrol company’s TV commercial.

Most of it's either playing a game for the sake of it or it's about power, control and money with the "issue", whatever that happens to be, being nothing more than a convenient tool to be used. :2twocents

It is interesting IMO, that the media is up in arms about the racial abuse Stan Grant is receiving, yet were cheering on the religious abuse Israel Folau and Margret Court were coping a while back.
Weird world we live in.

Almost every columnist, celebrity, sports star, influencer etc cop heaps of online abuse very, very often.

I even recall one saying "if I don't get abused by someone then the column was a dud" and I crank it up the next time.

Given how often the ABC subject innocent people to a trial by media we could almost say "the kettle is calling the pot *****"

Not to mention politicians and journalists.

It's a fact of life that there are idiots out there. The only thing people can do is ignore them unless they make threats of violence, in which case take it to the police.

Oh dear a lovers tiff in the media, caught with the veneer off. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

From the article:
An extraordinary legal whodunit has emerged in the wake of the leak of the tape of Ms Wilkinson, Ms Higgins, Mr Sharaz and executive producer Angus Llewllyn.

It was never released by the ACT Supreme Court during the trial, although parts of it were played to the jury.

It includes Ms Wilkinson describing former defence Minister Linda Reynolds as “a nobody” and an “idiot”, and saying “who is this f***king woman”.

It also records the group war gaming the story and suggesting Anthony Albanese would “definitely” raise the issue in question time. Ms Wilkinson has subsequently confirmed she never contacted him to do so.

The leaked texts include private discussions with Ms Wilkinson’s husband Peter FitzSimons over a $325,000 book deal and Mr Sharaz describing then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a “c***t”.

"A reciprocating engine of money, power and influence: how Australia’s ‘media monsters’ used journalism to cement their empires"

And politicians on both sides of politics use the same media for their ends even today, that's why open debate on forums like ASF, is so healthy for a balanced perspective IMO.
IMO news is like a jigsaw and each side of the media gives you the pieces they want you to believe, it's up to us to try and work out which pieces make the true picture.
That's why Prime ministers love selfies these days, free public exposure. :roflmao:

Social media content to be put under the spotlight again, but it doesn't sound like it affects mainstream media, well that would be right or left. ?
From the article:
Online platforms spreading misinformation could face millions of dollars in penalties under new proposed government legislation that bolsters the power of Australia's media watchdog.

Ms Rowland warned "social media platforms are on notice that they have an important role in this area".

She also stressed the regulator would not have the power to remove individual pieces of content and made clear the new powers would not apply to professional news content.

Public consultations commenced today and will close on August 6.

The Communications Legislation Amendment (Combating Misinformation and Disinformation) Bill 2023 is now in the public consultation stage.

The bottom feeders just can't let go, amazing that they still have to troll a family. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
And the media wonder why the public dislike them, maybe they should realise not everyone dwells in the gutter with them.
He's gone mate, do the Aussie thing and let them live in peace now, it really isn't front page worthy IMO.:xyxthumbs

Scott Morrison’s best-known family holiday was memorable for all the wrong reasons. An ill-fated summer jaunt to Hawaii with Jenny and the girls while Australia burnt in 2019 became a defining moment of his prime ministership.
Now a backbencher, Morrison is free to get away from it all without causing a major stir. And that means, just like half your Instagram feed, the Morrisons are off on a Euro summer.

Nothing like the Australian media, to make a negative headline and strip the enjoyment from a kid out there doing his best.
Yep reporters, all the answers for why everyone else fails. ?
I watched the stage and Jai did an amazing job to stay in touch, coming in sixth against some of the best bike riders in the World, riding up one of the hardest climbs, a day after actually winning a climbing stage, is an absolutely brilliant result. IMO

Shame it didn't come up to the reporters expectations, maybe he could grab a bike and try to actually ride up the Col du Tourmalet then give Jai a couple of tips on how to do it.?

If Jai had blown up he wouldn't have come in 6th, Wout van Aert blew up as could be expected he worked his ar$e off, Jai just couldn't match Pogacar and Vingegaard, but then again not many can.

Jai is now in third place behind the two best general classification riders in the cycling world, that is impressive IMO. ?
Well done Jai, great effort.
From your ABC:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07...alet-loses-tour-de-france-yellow-je/102573396
Jai Hindley's time in the yellow jersey lasted just 24 hours after a disastrous sixth stage of the Tour de France.

And maybe a more learned and professional account from the cycling media.

Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) struck a rich vein of yellow with a huge effort on the final climb of the Col de Marie Blanque on Wednesday and rode solo to victory on stage 5 at the Tour de France, propelling him into the race lead. His grasp on living out a ‘childhood dream’ lasted just one day, but he had no regrets.

Once he arrived at the finish in Cauterets-Cambasque after 144.9km in the Pyrenees, Hindley clung to third place overall, having finished 2:39 behind stage winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), now second on GC, and 2:15 back of Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), who took over the maillot jaune. Hindley’s ride was valiant, scrambling up the final 16km climb to keep a podium position.

On the road so missing the tour this year anywhere in the top 20 is super star stuff

Come on guys, are we know these weren't girls
Do we? Prefer to see the evidence. There are such creatures as tall women, my cousin is one.
Bbc and Daily Mail reports were based on the police report.
Let's just wait till we catch them. Should not take long.
