When the extension was completed in 2004 it was heralded as one of the wonders of the world. Nearly 100 years late, it had finally arrived and the new Port Extension in Darwin was set to open up an area between Adelaide in the South and Darwin in the North.
The tourist industry would boom and iron ore and coal would be sent to Darwin and onward to Asia and China.
Has it though?

Patience is needed as the Ghan railway is gradually used more and more. Iron ore, most of it low to medium grade, and brown coal (sub-bitumous coal) are likely to come more and more in demand over the next 5 to 10 years.
So that new Port extension up there in Darwin will see a lot of coal and iron ore gradually coming their way from the Northern parts of S.A.

Felix Resources have set up an office in Adelaide to explore and develop their Phillipson tenement that has up to 5 billion tonnes of sub-bitumous coal as an inferred reserve.
This may become a very large development quite a number of years down the line and the GHAN Railway, that runs through Phillipson, is set to be a strategic factor in the development.
