The completely useless irrelevant thread

Frigging digital wallets and systems in to which we are beholden.

Have been attempting to add card details to the aforesaid wallet. All the account details are correct but it continually rejected. Discovered the issue. The exact name on the card must be entered not the details of the actual account.

Example: Bell Cose rejected; Mr Bell I Cose accepted.

Wonders never cease.

And it has caused great issues with one family member. As part of the "Know Your Customer" requirements, financial bodies randomly ask customers to re-verify their identify. Everything OK until it comes to ID. Passport rejected. Medicare details rejected. Account now locked. Ascertained the problem. When the account was set up 17 years ago, the bank only required the person's middle initial not full middle name. Of course, that is now no longer a match with the ID documents. Off they go to a bank branch this morning.

Fortunately they do have other sources of funds which they can access so it's inconvenient but not disastrous.

Using an airline from Canberra to Sydney seems such a waste of money. $229 each way. Decided to catch a bus for $86 return. Take around 3 1/2 hours. Relax, read a book, take some eats and gaze out at the scenery. No fussing with check-in, scanning, waiting around and dipsticks standing in aisles just waiting with stuff from overhead lockers. Then getting a taxi or bus into Sydney. Bus drops off passengers at Central station.

As a former Ranga ( what little hair is left has gone gray),I would most definitely agree with that premise.
Two of my kids and three of my grandkids are also Rangas, and are a bit out there as well.
(one of them who is staying with us, just wandered into the bedroom at 6.00 a.m. and demanded toast made out of brown bread with honey and peanut butter and with the crusts cut off or breakfast).

@mullokintyre It is to be hoped that you informed the ankle biter as to where the kitchen is and put your breakfast order in also.

Yes in Japan the Shinkansen is more expensive than flying, but a hell of a lot easier. Lol

A Slavic people, the Wends, settled in Germany more than 1,000 years ago. Many of them now live on islands in the Spree River and its web of channels; they are chiefly eel fishermen and cucumber growers. A common Spree-wald salutation is: “Have a cucumber?”

New York's Empire State Building took one year and 45 days from construction state to opening, beginning 17 March 1930, and having its official open 01 May 1931.

Today it would take at least 4 years to get approval and then about 10 years to build it.

All while using very modern machinery that simply did not exist back then

Progress is wonderful isn't it :roflmao:

So that would be 2 steps forward, 1 step sideways and 2 steps back and just keep repeating.
End result not much, but hey, someone would be making a pile of Sheckles.

Empire State Building

Five workers died during the construction of the Empire State Building between 1929 and 1930. This was out of a total of 3,400 workers, resulting in a death rate of 1.47 deaths per thousand. The deaths were primarily the result of slip-and-fall or struck-by accidents.
