Yesterday i decided to go into Melbourne for a lunch and i was determined to find somewhere expensive and I came across the Grand Hotel on Spencer Street and on the menu they had a hamburger for $35 so i bought it and no joke...it was the best hamburger i ever had and i could not finish it.

Are you serious???

How big was it?

I've seen internet photos of hamburgers that are HUGE in (where else) the states

What did it come with?

I live in South Melb and work in the city so could be tempted to sample it..

You haven't lived till you've tried the Burgers at "Ban Ban Springs" - just inland from Bundaberg / QLD.

Regards Victor.

Most expensive burger I've ever had was a chicken burger for about $20 (quite some years ago so probably $25 - 30 now) at some restaurant on the waterfront in Hobart. Wasn't exactly small but I ate the lot. :D

The hari krishnas used to make a nice lentil burger when they had their restaurant in swanston street. Very tasty and cheap.

If you come from montague street and on to flinders street turn left at spencer street and its on your left adjacent ro liitle collins street...its called the Grand hotel 5 star service just go into the grand cafe.

The hamvburger was big and absolute quality they used the black something beef that is specially bred for the Japanese market and use King Is smoked cheddar.

The bacon is fantastic..lean and plenty of it and they use fanastic salad mix on it and the egg is fantastic.

Eating out nowdays is so expensive and you really don't get value for money.

Years ago you could get a very nice meal accompanied by excellent service for a reasonable price.

Now every tom dick and harry has started up a restaurant or cafe, the service is lousy the food sub-standard and the prices exhorbantant. Add to that the cost of travel and parking, its an expensive night out for a fairly average experience.

I sometimes go to crown casino to sonatas smorgas board for $12.50 all you can eat...and that is good value the lamb and beef alone are briliant

If you can manage to finish this US$23.95 burger in under three hours you eat for free! :D

Although you do have to travel to Clearfield, Pennsylvania in the U.S. to try it.

As soon as I read this story I knew I had to dig up this thread.

The world's biggest burger has just been trumped by the world's most expensive sandwich. Gourmets in London can now order themselves a $200 sandwich.

Bon Appetit! :)

$A204 sandwich to go on sale
From correspondents in London
April 09, 2006

A NEW gourmet sandwich is to go on sale at an upmarket London store tomorrow - but at a cost of £85 ($204) it could be too much to swallow for hungry shoppers.

The cheekily-named McDonald sandwich - after its creator Scott McDonald, the executive chef of department store Selfridges on Oxford Street - earns its whopping price tag because of the Wagyu beef that makes up most of the filling.

According to the the UK's Sunday Telegraph, which had a taster of the expensive delicacy, the 595g sandwich comprises 24-hour fermented sour dough bread, spread with a foie gras-flavoured mayonnaise.

It also contains Brie de Meaux, considered one of Europe's finest cheeses, English cherry tomatoes and rocket, plus roasted peppers.

"Utterly fantastic mixture of tastes," one of Britain's leading chefs, Giorgio Locatelli, told the newspaper through a mouthful of the sandwich.

"Tangy, sweet... a monster mouthful that would be a really sexy love food to share with a lover. The beef simply melts, it falls apart. I'm impressed."

The newspaper said five orders had been taken so far in advance of the sandwich going on sale.
