Tax Godbotherers

Totally Julia. :D

I must admit, I'm scared. The ability to use Rudd's "weasel words" seems to be too easy. No one other than you, even seemed to question them. That is a sad reflection on society.

Duckman

The manipulation of society by godbotherers like Rudd leaves the common man and woman paying more for that which makes their life bearable.

A quote from Myles na Gopaleen an Irish wit and author.

'The Workmans Friend'

When things go wrong and will not come right,
Though you do the best you can,
When life looks black as the hour of night -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.

When money's tight and hard to get
And your horse has also ran,
When all you have is a heap of debt -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.

When health is bad and your heart feels strange,
And your face is pale and wan,
When doctors say you need a change,
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.

When food is scarce and your larder bare
And no rashers grease your pan,
When hunger grows as your meals are rare -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.

In time of trouble and lousey strife,
You have still got a darlint plan
You still can turn to a brighter life -
A PINT OF PLAIN IS YOUR ONLY MAN.

And Rudd will be long forgotten when he is but a picture in the Great Hall of Parliament, but Myles verses to the common man or woamn will live forever.

I share your concern, Duckman. We are becoming so accustomed to Ruddspeak that - amongst the apparent reassurance of a stimulus-fuelled still functional economy - we are at risk of becoming as the citizens of Orwell's "1984".

Perhaps soon we will all be issued with our personal supply of the equivalent of Orwell's "Soma" to swallow any time we begin to question the wisdom of our leaders.

Scary indeed.

Just in case anyone had any doubts... Wayne Swan is just as silly as he looks;

Blame it on jet lag. Swan brooks no silliness from Leigh Sales on Friday's Lateline on ABC1:

CRITICS of the Government's stimulus package haven't got a feather to fly with if they want to be arguing over signs. The opposition, for example, put up signs for their investing in schools program and you didn't hear a peep about that from those on our side of politics at the time.

Sales: Well, the argument that everyone else is doing it, so I should be allowed to do it is one that I couldn't get away with it when I was 10 years old. Is it really an argument that adults in the federal government should be making?

Swan: No, I think that's a silly argument that you've just put, Leigh.

Sales: You saying the other side did it so we should do it. You're the one making that argument.

Swan: No, it's entirely normal - no, you're making a silly argument.

All religions work like a business so why not tax them like a business? I'm all for it! They 'make' millions from what I believe to be a scam (that’s just my view), own billions worth of land and other assets and yet not a cent is seen from this lot anywhere. So tax away.

As for the taxes going up and up on smokes and drink, well I don’t care. If you want to smoke and drink then do it. Smoking is generally accepted to be pretty dam bad for you, yes I smoke a cigar or 2, so if you want to smoke and they want to make it a little more expensive then I’m all for it, so long as there is a level playing field.

However, I am also for taxing (a HECS like fee) on sports people who scam money out of the public coffers (AIS etc); those who drink drive/speed and cause crashes should be made to pay the full economic cost of the clean up and resulting hospitalisation; I am for making those who surf in bad weather and need to be rescued to be billed the full amount; I am for all those stupid things people do to be taxed. Make it fair.

Why should someone who decides to climb a mountain - a few cases in QLD over the past 18mths - in shorts and singlet in the middle of winter with no provisions get away with a hand-shake and 'thanks mate' when then cost will be covered by the government or the local community organisation who will have to charge a little more at their next annual fete cake sale to cover the cost of rescuing di*kheads.

If you want a quasi-like socialist country Mr Dudd and Co. then make it fair across the board.

As for the comment way back about all the people who are in sick beds as a result of drinking and smoking and taking away beds from those who 'need' it, well what can I say, what a load of sh*t. Where are the stats to back it up?

I might as well say all those people waiting for the knee replacement are only there through their own fault for playing sport and hurting their knee in the first place. As for this mountain (my word) of hernia operations, well people should take more care when they pick heavy things up.

Everything, no matter how you look at it is the individuals fault (generally)! The pack a day smoker to the weekend warrior on the sports field who blows his/her knee.

I guess with this rubbish line of reasoning then all McD's, HJ, Big Rooster, Pizza places should be shut down as we are a nation of big fat slobs and causing massive drains on the health care system, and all those with knee and hernia operations are being left out in the street.

Where does it end?
