What do people think of this fund:
Superfund

I am currently in contact with a financial planner who keeps bringing it up, and sticking brochures under my nose. I am way too newbie to know if it's good or not.

(I live in Japan, but am Australian btw; the FP is Japanese)

Anything a financial planner aggressively wants you to invest in, is a red flag to be careful straight away. Ask him his commission on it....

For a quick look at that web site, I would not give them any of my money,

just my 2 cents

Is it the Australian arm of Superfund (i.e. Superalphafund) or non-Australian arm?

Hmm, I'd guess non-Oz, Matty.

Yeah fair enough. He's also been trying to sell me a mutual fund that has about 40-50% of it's plan in US bonds & dollars. After spending time researching I want nothing to do with US bonds or dollars for the long term.

So where is the location of the product that is being offered?
Different countries have different product offering restrictions/laws/product disclosures ... Japan??
The product offering in Australia is different to that in the US, Europe etc ...

Ah I see. To be honest I havent kept the brochures I was given as the talk of 30%+ odd growth, no losses even in bad times, etc, made me think it was too good to be true. But I'd guess it would be in Japan, as one of the language choices from the initial site there is Japanese.

Well the performance is quite decent long term. However most recently they've performed as badly as everyone else, like -15%+.

However here's where you got to watch out; the fees are like 4% p.a. and there's a 20% performance fee ... lol

You might want to ask your financial planner if he is getting any trail commissions. ;)
And btw, you're not uncomfortable with having a Japanese FP?

Goodo, thanks.

He's not actually my FP. My wife and I used him to setup our health insurance. He also works as an independent FP. We had no idea about investing and he was giving us some ideas, I guess. Anyway, I like to do alot of research into things like this before just giving someone my money, so I thought I'd try to learn about investing myself before either using him or not. I've been doing study now for a couple of months, and honestly still feel like I know next to nothing. But I'm gonna persevere with it so I can organise some investments myself. I'll probably start with something like a mutual fund or index fund (but have no idea yet how to set one up). I've been looking at Peter Schiff's Europac company too. I was also wondering about this Superfund thing, hence the question. Wouldnt mind getting into some ETFs too once I know more about them. So I'm not uncomfortable as such, as he's a nice guy and all, but I think I'm gonna do this by myself.
