Something that made me smile today

Where I live we have a dam fed by a bore so a lot of ducks gather and there is something serene and contented with the way they interact. We have learnt to move slowly when they are there and gradually they have learned not to fear us and stay put.

I have my new veggie patch just below that area.:)

When I go to visit my parents I tend to cut through the golf course and 1 of their lakes is full of different birds. Is very popular with ducks for breeding, and plenty of native birds too flitting around in the shrubbery hunting. Saw a maggie snatch a dragon fly out of the sky.

Just glad the maggies like to nest on the other side of the course.

Used to look after a doctors kids at night when she was working in the emergency dept at Wollongong hospital. I'd walk the kids to school and catch the train to uni. So sad it was pre digital cameras. I still chuckle when I remember the youngest girl with a backpack practically the size of her with a stick going in lazy circles above her head to ward off the maggies.

Reminds me of when I was riding my bike into Kiama and there was a lady with a marge simpson style blue rinsed bouffant being dived by a couple of maggies. She didn't give them a thought. Suppose that much hair she wasn't going to get pecked. Another pre gigital cam memory :cool:
 
I live in a gated retirement village. We have a visiting scrub turkey that struts around as though he owns the place. We also have a fox that visits at night. Which begs the question. How can foxes and scrub turkeys co-exist in the same area?

When I was a lad we used to visit my dad's family and they had a large dairy farm. They also had a few turkeys.

Now my brother had forgotten about the consequences of taunting animals. He'd received a rather scary peck from an ostrich a few years earlier.

So there he is gobbling at the turkeys and one just decides he's had enough and may brother is running for his life, still making the gobbling sounds, with a turkey that prob weighed more than him hot on his tail. Oh i was so close to wetting my pants watching that.

Out in the open my money's on the turkey. The fox was prob smart enough to know when your eyes are bigger than ya stomach :D
 
Jut having some sardines on toast. Fat cat was over the fence and meowing at my back door before the sardines had finished heating up.

Strange thing is he wont lick the tin out. Gives it a good sniff but nope. Have offered him some raw chicken a couple of times and he's turned his nose up at that too. Which begs the question on how he's gotten fat, though I think maybe it's half fur.

I remember any of the cats I had at my parents would literally lick a sardine can clean in under a minute, which then required about 20 minutes of preening to remove all the left over traces on their face and paws.
 
Nice stories. Away from animals, what made me smile today was a phone call from a 75 year old relative in NZ to tell me she has fallen in love. She and her 80 year old boyfriend (? seems the wrong term?) have just had a holiday in Norfolk Island to celebrate their birthdays.:):)

Freudian slip! Whilst driving on Saturday listening to news radio the presenter read a background on the model allegedly killed by Pistorious and then said "Prostitutors ...er Prosecutors said...."
He didn't miss a beat-a real professional.Made me smile!

Yep, you forgot Sails who I am sure is female ;) (now I'll be in trouble if she's not :eek: )

And Mr Burns is right, I'm actually a big hairy male truckdriver :D

Now now. You could be like Bill the Diesel dyke I used to play pool with at the old Bank Hotel in Newtown.

She'd be there wearing a blue bonds chestie and some stubbies and usually some worn out dock martens. She had some of the funniest dirty jokes i've ever heard.

Mean biach when she'd had too much to drink, otherwise a real cack to be around.
 
Just seeing the support given in explods thread, and throughout this forum, made me smile :)

The dog and the little boy and the man on the plane both made my smile :) (for different reasons ;) ). The rope swing? .... that didn't make me smile :eek: (way too scary for me :( )
