I am not sure if I am allowed to push other websites/apps etc here... But I am using a lot of social sentiment type stock website and apps these days and I find it useful for getting real time information. The one that I am really liking at the moment is Scutify.

A while ago, I was short a US stock called F5 Networks, it went down 20% after hours. Low and behold my position was hugely profitable. I had no idea why it tanked... I opened up Twitter and someone tweeted that it's sales was abysmal so hence the drop. This was before any of the news site mentioned it at all. Well Scutify does that and more with your favourite stocks - presenting it in nicely easy to follow foramt. So you guys might want to check it out and use it as a companion with this rocking Forum.

Unless it was insider trading, the company announcements would have had this information readily available for you even before the twitter user decided to tweet.

No, no, no... I neglected to say the earnings report was out after the close... so that was the cause of the fall.. but I had no idea why it fell.. was sales bad, was earnings bad etc etc... but someone tweeted that the sales was below previous guidance.. hence the sell off....

Wouldn't a 30 second glance at the announcement have told you why it fell?

That means you got an explanation after the fact. Most of us will check - either routinely, or by setting alerts - what our stocks are doing/ have done over night. When Market opens, we know. But how has listening to chatter influenced/ improved your trading success?
I'm happy for you that you got the direction right, but don't know WHY you went short the stock. Did you hear rumours before? Or did you form an opinion based on the look of the chart?

As far as I'm concerned, I limit myself to one or two Forums, and I only visit and contribute when I have some time on my hands: time to read what others are up to; time to ask questions about stocks or general ideas; time to let fellow members know what I've seen and heard about stocks; time to add to threads (like this one :) )

Not when you are catching a train and going to work.. don't think you are going to sift through their earnings numbers and then look to compare it with a site that shows consensus estimates... you are not always in front of your desk mind you.

So what use is it to find out information after the stock's price has already moved.
