Sniffing out petrol irregularities

Bottom line is Shell, Caltex, BP, Liberty, United etc in southern Tas ALL get their fuel out of those tanks,

Smurf,
yep I appreciate all that.
But I went on to say
"Perhaps the authorities should insist that tanker companies are the hub for these conversations".

i.e. I can see why the tanker company would ring servo A to arrange delivery at 9.30am...

and why the tanker company would ring servo B to arrange delivery at 9.45am...

BUT I'm not so convinced that servo A needs to talk to servo B if you get my drift. :2twocents

Agreed that the servos don't need to talk to each other. But obviously the operator of the terminal (or refinery - in many cases they are effectively the terminal) needs to know what's going on with deliveries overall regardless of where the fuel is being delivered to and what brand the servo is.

Biggest concern I have though isn't with price at all but security of supply. I strongly suspect that inventories are being minimised in order to maximise profit. With declining domestic production and an increasingly tight global market it's only a matter of time until that one bites us all a lot harder than the price issue. $1.50 a litre is one thing, not being able to buy fuel at any price is a far more serious problem both physically and economically. If government is going to force anything then it should be stock levels first IMO then worry about prices once that's sorted out.

Its all controlled electronically, with sat nav etc, so there is no need to check on delivery via the old school telephone.

Does anyone on here actually work in this industry?
