I have just passed some workers on the Flinders Highway in my Arnage.

They are having Smoko.

I believe Mr.Rudd and the ABC Brigade are trying to get rid of this great Australian tradition.

They have got Buckleys.

In my workplace (a qld gov. dept.) it is a health and safety requirement to have two 10min. breaks or one 20min. break (otherwise known as smoko).

My fam is Italian, and we all work in the family business, and mate if we didnt stop to eat every 2 hours, there would be a f***en riot. NOTHING gets in the way of my 10am antipasto fix

At my workplace we used to get in trouble for not having breaks as apparently it's a requirement. We usually have breaks Monday to Friday (not every day though), but very rarely when on overtime Sat / Sun do we have a break.

As for the "smoko" bit, well nobody here actually smokes but a couple still use the term to refer to lunch breaks.

As a shhh... Smoker. I have a fair few breaks during the day but always manage to combine with reading a report, printout or making a call.

All this is just another attack on our civil liberties.

In a past life I was a reasonably successful small businessman. I only attained the 'reasonably successful' status because I worked 16 hour days with as little as 10 mins off during the day. I have no objections to workers in repetitive physical jobs taking reasonable breaks for their health's sake but take umbrage with the traditional aussie abuse of that priveledge.
No I don't...only kidding Garpal!

Smoking during a no pay break (lunch) or an allowed paid break morning tea (smoko) employee's can smoke away if they want, but to say they are going to the loo and come back smelling like the marlborough man is not on.

If they ask to go for a choker outside of allowed time, sure. But when asked for the favour in return ie. working back when busy or work harder to create the free time, be sure the answer had better be "YES BOSS"

Jeez mate, you are tough on the Aussie worker.

Let him have a smoke if he or she wants.

Most smokers I know are reasonable people and would work back a few minutes for the boss.

Not much fun when you work in an office. They all stink up the office lifts when they come back in - it's a disgusting habit. Least they could do is chew some gum for a few minutes before.:bigun2:

No different to getting in the lift and farting. For some reason that's not socially acceptable but stinking up the office lifts with cigarette breath is

Farting is a social exercise which wafts and wains in popularity.
