What does everyone do with their small change these days?

A few days ago I was going through some old stuff & found one of my old “piggy” banks ( so to speak ) , mainly 10 & 20 c coins , lets just say im not to worried about theft , because its too heavy to lift … :roflmao:
Would it be acceptable to just dump it on the counter at the bank and say “please deposit” ??

Im guessing they would charge to count it but I guess I couldn’t blame them.

:alcohol:

Give em a ring or ask at your branch.

Not all branches are set up for bulk coin deposits.
Shouldn't cost you anything - coin machine owners are doing it all the time, just arrange a time and place and whether they like them sorted or just a bulk bag.
John

Edited to add
There is a weight limit per bag just ask.

This may sound a bit slack, but I just don't bother with the silver stuff anymore.
When some container is filled up it makes a fun gift !

Bob.

Why not just use it up as you go? Don't use a credit card all the time.
Hand it over at the supermarket etc.

I regularly deposit all the tea/coffee money from work at the Commonwealth Bank. No charge. They just put it into a machine that counts it automatically and will either deposit it into an account or hand you back some notes (not sure if you will do this free if you don't bank with them though - they always ask to see my card).

To avoid being a nuisance I suggest that you don't go at a busy time - eg lunch time etc. Once when there were long queues they accepted the coins "subject to counting" for deposit rather than counting them at the time. So now I make a point of going either before 11am or after 2pm when they're not so busy.

As for what I do with my own coins, I don't really accumulate any. I always hand them over at shops whenever possible to get rid of them.

I think we'll see 5 cent coins disappear altogether in the next few years once the cost of making them exceeds their face value. With booming metal prices the cost of making coins must be increasing quite a bit.

I thought i would be smart and head down to the local automatic car wash and feed all the coins through the machine....but it seems it only takes gold coins and notes... lol.

Anyway, i think i will just take NettAssets & Smurf1976 advice and head into the bank when i get time.

cheers

We save up the coins and use it to feed the parking meters in Sydney, they seem to be very hungry...

Never seem to have much in the way of small change. Probable reason is that we seem spend it to buy "small change" daily items like milk, bread and such stuff.

Just wondering, how much does parking cost in Sydney these days. Was something nasty last time I checked. Just wonering but I have a feeling the 5 cent pieces don't go too far now?

If you live in Sydney just drive around the city for a day, the tolls on the bridge and motorways, and the price of petrol and parking will soon get rid of a couple of hundred dollars worth of silver coins.

Alot of parking meters take credit cards now. :(

Parking in the city is not an option for me, I only have a limit of a few thousand on my CC.
