"Slummy mummys" vs. "Yummy mummys"

"Fierce style battles are being waged between Queensland mothers during the daily before and after-school drop-off."

If these women really are devoting time and effort to out-dressing one another, I have good news for them- you've got spare time on your hands! Go and do something useful with it.

Oh c'mon, just because it is written in the media doesnt make it true! :banghead:

Why post 'stupid white people' in a story about mothers collecting their kids from school. Hell, you all had mothers who did this.

Boy, talk about someone writing a stupid article, concocting a 'theory' and then making gross assumptions to support it. And then you guys come in like it is the gospel truth. Sheesh!

The yummy mummy routine works best when the kidlets are in kindy. Once they hit primary school and beyond, the yummy bit drops off a bit. I never considered myself a yummy mummy at all because I dont like wearing make-up etc; but I NEVER go outside the house in trackie dackies. Unless I am going for just a walk.

I would usually wear jeans a nice top, sunglasses if it was sunny, and ok shoes. Actually, I think the article is rather inept to be honest; if you dont wear trackies you are automatically classified as showing off and trying to be a yummy mummy? Weird.

What does racial origin (colour of skin) have anything to do with this. Many of the 'non white' complexioned ladies (whose origins many be Indian, Filipino, Eurasian, etc) often looked the best dressed and were more conscious of their appearance (as part of their cultural pride) than anyone else? Weird.

A sensible post Prospector. (you sound like a yummy mummy;)

As a Dad who sometimes picks ups his kids from school, I often chat to the Mums, my three boys have been thru the same Primary School, in walking distance.

I confess :I do like to see a good looking, well dressed woman but I am a singlets+stubbies dad.

I think woman are their own worst enemies in the fashion stakes.

and I totally agree about the Asian ladies, they usually look a million$

to finish, a proud moment, my third son has qualified for Selective High School, that makes 3 out of 3, lucky their mum is so smart eh

I agree, Prospector. I have regularly walked a grandchild into school and haven't noticed any of this supposed competition. Most parents simply drive their car to the school gate and drop their little darlings off there and then try to get out of the traffic congestion as fast as they can. Who knows if they are still in their PJs and slippers - :D

The ones who get out and walk their kids in are usually just casually dressed - clean and tidy - as I do. Some are obviously dressed for work, but apart from that, there doesn't seem to be a dividing line or any fashion competition. I have never felt the need to "fashion up" just to walk into school.

I think the journalist needed something to write about...

I'll just point out that I said "IF these women really are" at the start of my post- I don't take it as gospel, in fact I was hoping there weren't people out there who dress to compete with each other in the car park of a school!:)

That said, the average pair of retinas will find someone nicely dressed more soothing than, say, a faded lemon terry towelling tracksuit at 0800...mmm....terry towelling- now THERE'S a fabric that needs to make a comeback..
