From ABC:

“Police say they are surprised and saddened that it has taken about six months for residents to notice a man had died in a public housing complex in Surry Hills in inner-Sydney.
The 62-year-old's skeletal remains were found on a bed in his unit in The Northcott building yesterday.
At this stage police believe there are no suspicious circumstances.
Police commander Daryl Donnolley says that officers will return to the apartment block today to talk to the man's neighbours.
"On our current information it appears that nobody unfortunately has noticed that the man was there, it's very tragic," he said.
"It is very sad that a person who lives by themselves could be left unnoticed and I guess that's the tragedy of people in their later years residing on their own."”

Another difficult topic.

People can and sometimes must live lonely life.
Everybody to busy in rat race.

Also many people are abrupt, unpleasant, rude, angry so they are avoided, but there are lovely lonely people too.

(Could RU-488 tablet be an option? – say if you cannot prove that you have 10 friends and you are in constant contact you have to go).

You are right; it is quite upsetting to think that someone could go un-noticed for such a period of time. I don't think that we (as humans) were designed to live in isolation.

I can't speak for the individual you are referring to, but in a general sense I do believe that loneliness can be self-imposed to some degree.

The attitude we have to life can attract opportunities to network and create a social network. As someone who has suffered from those feelings of isolation (and who hasn't?) I found there was no sense in waiting for my circumstances to change but rather to go out and embrace life.

Life is busy, complex and time pressured - but investing in family and friends is so important.

Happy:

This is the second such story in the last couple of months and is immensely sad.

Are you serious in your last sentence in brackets?
