Simon Crean for PM?

Apologies if there is already a thread on this.

Betting has been suspended on Simon Crean for our next PM after he firmed from $101 or more last week to $11 today. Can a leadership spill be on the cards? Surely someone has some inside info for the odds to change this much, anyone know any more about this?

Perhaps Julia Gillard is more aware of her present situation than it seems and she has placed a big bet on her own downfall.

Interesting. Let's not forget he had a go at the leadership and failed dismally.
He seems to be a decent bloke, pretty straightforward for a politician. Just lacked gravitas or any sort of political presence. Certainly he'd be better than any of the present leadership team.

As per my post #1158 "Labors carbon tax lie", it has been predicted both Gillard and her stupid carbon tax will be history come August.

Crean is now the hot favorite and if it does happen I would predict a substantial rise in the polls in favor of Labor. I would say if Crean was to become Prime Minister, he would have a massive reshuffle of cabinet.

I doubt if Gillard will hang around like Rudd did in June last year.

erm... hate to break it to you but Crean and Gillard are the 2 left-faction VIC ALP bigwigs - Crean was a mentor for her!. Yeah backstabbing can occur from anyone..... but Rudd was a right-faction (and a Qoinslander ) member who had the support of NSW right and VIC right. Would be stupidly funny if her mentor tapped her on the shoulder...

Gillard scored NSW right and VIC right support in the Krudd knifing - fast forward to today NSW Right is hopelessly demoralised after their shelacking in the NSW election and the VIC factions - although in the same boat state election-wise - are far more influential (the loss here was no where near as great in NSW). Victoria is the country's daddy at the moment.

On the flipside - the Mad monk is a dry crusty tory and Malcolm Turnbull/Joe Hockey are in the small thinking faction of the Liberal party - that's where the friction is - Abbott would probably never be knifed by Bishop.

I think labor's only chance is to ditch her, and the greens and go to another election without a carbon tax vs Abbott with a direct action plan.

JB, if Congress and the President can't get it together soon on the US debt ceiling and QE, that could very well precipitate the internal coup de grace for the ALP Leadership. A new tax in the background of extreme market uncertainty? Not likely.

Crean is of the Left (former union leader), and likely to be one of the more palatable and steady choices.
