Should I begin share investments in a bull market?

Kooka,

You obviously have alot of experience on the markets, my three and a half years certainly cant compare to that - and to be honest the first year of that was mostly writing calls & puts. There is quite a lot of noise about the XAO run coming into its final stages - I have it as over 200 points above its two year (or so) trendline and a quick scan over the past two years shows it doesn't like to stay there for long. I admit many commentators have influenced my outlook for the new year - I read Stefan's post regarding the US dollar with great interest. Just out of interest, do you ever hedge your portfolio with puts?

Cheers,

Mofra

ps baglimit I noticed the NMS rise since you mentioned it, well done

pps Stilltrying welcome

Moffra, my experience was not necessarily as a broker but backoffice paperwork was my forte. New issues dividends and settlements with National Nominees and E.L.& C.BAILLIEU . Often have considered put and call options to cover myself, but have mostly been comfortable with decisions I've made. Mind ,you can,t always be right , but right enough to have the percentages in your favour . I have found charting a great help , and follow 'Incredible Charts forum" who seem to have some very clever contributors.Regards KOOKA

Great thread. I have started to take some profits from some of my investing.
I like to buy when the papaers are saying sell. My successes have been ALL $1.60, CSL $12.73, AGI $0.51 but having recently taken some great profits I am currently at a loss as to which stock next.
Any suggestions?

Druggist , I,ll stick my head out and mention ERG again .They have had lots of hassles over the past 2 to 3 years , however their recent new issue (which was oversubscribed , so plenty of backers) has gotten rid of their debt . Predictions are around $300 million revenue in 2006. There is a bit of time to wait but you are getting in on the ground floor . Don,t put the house on it , but it is looking like a *green chip * investment .The chart also seems to have broken its downtrend . This is only my personal opinion , so do your homework . Many of the blue chips have had their run in the past 18 months and may rise further albeit slower than in the past . Regards KOOKA

Kooka
No disrespect to you but....
There would be a lot of people disagree with you on ERG, especially those who lost out on this wonderful little enterprise. I was lucky enough not to purchase any, but I almost once, I would have lost a motza. That was then and not now but if you think this will have a recovery story ala ALL good luck to you I think I would take a risk with 5 minutes in a lion cage rather then risk my hard earned on ERG. For those new to trading /investing I suggest some serious research on ERG before parting with your cash. Yes it has moved up a few cents recently then also the whole market has moved up. Your money.

Druggist,

Well done on your profits, I don't want to suggest individual stocks but I'm thinking of adding another goldie or two to my holdings coming into the new year, it may be worth your while to look through the sector.

Cheers

Hi everyone
I am thinking of investing in blue chip Aussie shares but am afraid that they have hit the ceiling. Should I start investing right now or hold off until some time next year?
One of gun trader Chuck Hughes' conditions for buying is new highs being made. A high price (compared to a low price of course) is not necessarily a bad thing.

However ;), the overall market trend and world events need to be considered before taking on shares. I have over two years experience back testing strategies over various time periods and countless parameters and the best outcomes are during a bull market. ;);) nudge nudge. Let me know when the next one starts will ya! :p:

IMO, you can 'adjust' your strategy to suit the market conditions.

Right now I've aimed for higher yielding stocks that have decent fundamentals and low debt (my theory is they don't depend on credit and won't be desperate to roll-over their lending facilities in a credit drought).

Nevertheless, I'd start with a very small amount of capital and build up your confidence, ideas, methods and tools/strategies.
