Hi guys, can anyone give me some feedback on who to go with re: setting up an e-trade account I have heard bad things about etrade and comsec what aboul bell direct anyone trade with them?

Also just a query on managed funds - Most of the books and texts that I have read have said that 9 times out of 10 if you pick out good long term stock like Bhp etc you will get more of a return on your money over 5 - 10 years rather than managed funds, do you think this is right? as this is the way I am planning to go.

E-Trade had all sorts of problems about a year ago when they were ugrading their site and software.

I haven't had an issue for at least 9 months.

Since then, I think their site is quite functional and am happy with the service.

I have no idea of a cost comparison right now, and never used Comsec.

Both E-trade and Commsec have been very good ... have used both recently and have had no problems at all. Haven't used any of the other locals to comment on them ... hopefully others will relay their experiences.
If you like lots of reading, I've found E-Trade very good in providing news, views etc .... a great range of info.

Etrade = yes, no problems
Comsuc = no, very poor customer orientation

Managed funds = fee factories, you might make some money after their fill? Will they give you better than what you get in a cash account @ 8% at the moment?

e-trade- well they have dont nothing wrong to me so i can't say anything bad-

but in my view only-1- i am not at home with it-

2-the brokage is just to high for me- i mean if u not trading a lot fair enough but if u doing 4-5 trades a day i feel for me its to heavy in price-

i will say that the people are good and quick to get to u on the phone-under 2 minutes -to me it shows decent customer care-

apart from that i never had a problem with e-trade-

i went with ib and just feel at home with it and it was very basic-

Thats just my view-

Thanks

Nick--

i signed up to commsec last month and they give up to $600 free brokerage, or first 12 trades free of brokerage i think...
you have to sign up through the link though...

Hello, I use ETRADE with no problems, once you have your first 10 trades out of the way each month the cost reduces.
Anybody use their upgrade services?
POWER ETRADE or ETRADE PRO?
If so could you please give some advice?
Are they are the worth the extra cost?
Is the functionality better?
I don't trade CFD's

Look forward to any thoughts

well it depends-

if u do more then 10 trades the etrade pro is free-dont know how power etrade works-as i don't do cfd's yet and never looked into it--

but then on the other hand- i was told what i was feeling-and that it was not to good to sit and stare at the screen all day as i have worked out lately

i did find it boring at the end to just sit their and view it all day-it was starting to take over my life-

but on the other hand if u do this for a living and u need to see the screen all day-why not-

thats my view-

what u got in mind-trades a day vs a week vs a month-maybe thats a better way to go about it--

Thanks
