Me and my friends bought 4 kayaks yesterday. Today we went for a ride in the harbour and I got sick in an hour. Every 30m I had to stop before I puked my guts out.

Am I doomed the next time I go out? Any one have any experience or tips ?

Build up your sea legs on calmer water, maybe the lane cove river.

Also, spend more time looking into the distance at the horizon, your body will understand the movements then, if your looking at front of your boat to much it can upset you.

also the faster you go the less sea sick you'll get, because side to side rocking generally causes it more than up and down, or forwards and backwards.

Thanks VC. The lane cove river is 2 mins from my house but we launched off from woolwich wharf. Ill try that next time. Hopefully I can acclimate to it.

Haha can, last case scenario.

Ill try it out again on sat but it feels so good to be back on land haha.
 
My daughter uses wrist bands with a little ball in them to indent into your inner wrist. She uses these for sea sickness. Has helped her a lot.

I do think looking forward at the horizon is the best theory, as your body copes with the inertia of the movement better. Its like when you read in the car, because you haven't got vision outside the window, you feel sick.

I'm a shocked get sea sick in a Ski boat and I'm driving
Barefooted for years and spent a lot of time spewing up
after tumble turns.
Seasickness is the worst!!!
 
Thanks Pinkboy, I heard about them. I dno I could read in the car and never got sick but my friend would always get sick. I think I set myself up for failure by thinking about it before I went out there.

TA id be interested in the meds as lomg as they have no side effects like drowsiness etc. Haha tell me about it. I jumped off on oyster shells and cut my self. But was worth it to get off the kayak haha. I had to keep going to get back to the wharf so I was going to puke but nuthing came out. Luckily as soon as I got on land I was ok.


Hopefully my body gets use to it. Cheap method of getting to good fishing spots haha.

Natural Ginger in any form is a brilliant anti-nausea medication.

It works better than anything else I've tried.

Logique, I will echo your sentiments of the benefits of ginger and I have attached a link for those who may care to use it.

Apart from the use of apple cider vinegar and honey and cinnamon, I have two small cups of home brewed ginger tea every day.

Buy the natural ginger root and cut of 4 pieces about the size of a 10 cent piece, trim the outside skin, add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 2 to 3 tablespoons of good honey.....Preheat a thermos flask and drain the hot water....add the ginger pieces, lemon and honey followed by boiling water into the thermos.....let it brew for 20 minutes, give a gentle shake and the ginger tea will be ready.....you can drink a small cup full, twice per day either hot or cold.

I also use the raw ginger in as many cooking dishes as I can.

You can also go to the supermarket or chemist and buy Blackmores Travel Pills which are 400mg of ginger (blue packet)

The nerve in your stomach is the Vagas ? nerve and ginger is its best mate to calm it down.
 
Thanks macca. Will get hold of some. All three of my friends are going tmw but I have to pass on that trip till I can test this ginger out.
 
I hope you get some relief from these suggestions, its a great sport, also remember to slip, slop ,slap
