Sad or Just Terrible News Worldwide

Living in the states forty years ago , I quickly realised there was no pity in the U.S. justice system . On a hunting trip to Wisconsin , I remember reading about a sixteen year old , who , in a fit of bad temper , brutally killed his girlfriend in Carson City . It's stayed in my memory because he copped more than a " life" sentence . This teenager got to hear those fateful three words , all Americans fear more than anything else......." life without parole " .
There 's no way this now , middle aged man will ever walk the streets again. He'll die behind bars .
Every yank will have it drilled into them , from a very early age : the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony ( crime ) . Everybody commits a misdemeanor or two , and will be forgiven , but oh boy, do a felony and , like your social security number , it will follow you around until you die .

@dyna What a pity our justice system here did not mean the same.
Life sentence here is a token 20 years give or take a bit.
